It’s true that young people can move, and sometimes that’s a smart move, but it can also cost them career growth and options, and in terms of school quality, etc. It would be better to encourage more seniors to sell and downsize through more efficient welfare and tax policy.
A record 242 US cities now have starter homes listed at $1 million. This is a political crisis demoralizing multiple generations and fueling political radicalism. "We" can only do one thing in response: Build like crazy. You...should resist credit cards and BE WILLING TO MOVE
Thanks for your critique, Janet. We actually tried a couple of episodes where House (Hugh Laurie) (please put the brackets in the right place) gets it right first time, but they were only 6 minutes long. NBC weren’t happy. Then we tried some where House never gets it right and the patient dies. The audience wasn’t happy.
One could apply your trenchant analysis to other art forms: JS Bach wrote 30 Goldberg variations on the same chord structure; Frida Kahlo painted 50 portraits of herself; Henry Moore, what??
The point is, or was, variations on a theme; if all you see is hospital, medical blah blah, then it wasn’t meant for you.
Nonetheless, I look forward to your first novel!
@jasonc_nc I'm still convinced the federal reserve continuing to buy MBSs and drive mortgage rates to 3% despite 10%+ housing price growth was the worst decision regarding inflation.
You just can't pull that stimulus back
@JamesSurowiecki I will never cease to be amazed how may teams think they have special knowledge that can beat the consensus. I can only think of a couple exceptions- they find out about undisclosed medical condition or uncover some unknown off-field issues or behaviors
I can’t believe Texas solved developer greed before New Jersey.
Surely the lone star state regulated their way to affordability by holding developers accountable!
New Jersey has one of America's biggest housing shortages - and no one is paying attention.
NJ inventory levels are down 63% from pre-pandemic norms, and refuse to recover.
Today there are only 14k listings on the market compared to nearly 40k prior to pandemic.
Such a big spply shortage in the Garden State is resulting in bidding wars. And prices still booming - by as much as double-digits - in certain areas like Princeton, Trenton, and NYC suburbs.
When people talk about the "U.S. Housing Shortage", what they are really talking about is markets like New Jersey.

@BrettKollmann I always think about this - how the somewhat random distribution of talent can vary from year to year and how it affects how successful a team really is at drafting
Just effing ridiculous.
The Republicans want to ban investors because they don’t want to live next to icky renters and Democrats want to ban them because they don’t know their ass from a hole in the ground.
@mnolangray I’m glad you are mentioning the fact that she trying to protect her assets. She kills a family, avoids jail time, and now is trying to avoid any financial consequences. But she is sorry.
This is how most Americans accumulate wealth: by accident. They buy a house because they think it's The American Dream, then through a series of exclusionary NIMBY policies, their house value increases. Presto! They think they're geniuses
@ScottKacsmar I always wonder the outcome if the teams playing the Packers in the playoffs that season , e.g. the Patriots, strategically decided to not kick to Howard. That is, squib and corner kick. That kickoff return was devastating but the Patriots kicked it right down the middle
@westy01612@ScottKacsmar The rules were different - but also there was a tendency for the referees to arbitrarily ignore certain infractions in those days. To the patriots credit - they took full advantage - but there was still plenty of calls that were just ignored.
@lnjbwtz@ScottKacsmar The point was about the success not being replicated- and some of the hits just not being called. Thank you for asking for clarification.
