New: Brad Schneider, chair of New Dems, sent Rep. Valadao, chair of RG2, a letter asking for a meeting between the two groups to find a way “through the gridlock” and discuss ideas to “lower costs and protect healthcare coverage that will empower our respective leaderships to bring the shutdown to an end.”
Valadao responded that while he “share your concerns about rising healthcare costs, but we can't set a precedent that shutting down the government is an acceptable way to negotiate.”
“The members of the New Democrat Coalition understand the consequences of a shutdown, yet not one of your members voted to keep the government open,” he said.
The meeting won’t be happening.

I've been outspoken about the need to strengthen the program, and my stance hasn't changed. I won't support a final reconciliation bill that includes any reduction in Medicaid coverage for vulnerable populations.
It’s simply the first step in the process before committees begin drafting legislation to determine priorities. I’ve made clear to House leadership that I will only support a final bill that protects essential resources like Medicaid or SNAP for Central Valley families.

Many European countries are contributing to Ukraine above the U.S. when looking at the % given of GDP. Letting a major country invade another country sets a precedence that China and others will follow. Putin’s war crimes cannot be ignored. Free nations work together.
I’m thrilled that the Social Security Fairness Act, which I co-sponsored, just passed the Senate overwhelmingly after passing the House in a broad, bipartisan vote last month. This legislation will ensure seniors get to keep the Social Security they paid into their whole lives and aren’t unfairly dinged because of pensions or disability benefits they receive from other employers. I look forward to seeing this common sense bill signed into law.
Congratulations to the newly elected RG2 Chairman @RepDavidValadao.
Since coming to Congress together, I have seen him demonstrate that he is a result-oriented Republican who knows how to get things done.
I look forward to continuing to work w/the caucus under his leadership.
In 2023, I had the second-highest bipartisan voting record in the U.S. House of Representatives.

GOP OH Rep Joyce on being the only Republican nay vote on Garland contempt of Congress resolution: As a former prosecutor, I cannot in good conscience support a resolution that would further politicize our judicial system to score political points. The American people expect Congress to work for them, solve policy problems, and prioritize good governance. Enough is enough.
The unprecedented crisis at our southern border has gone on for far too long.
The Homeland Security appropriations bill we are marking up today works to secure the border by hiring more Border Patrol agents, increasing border technology, and building the wall.
Former Border Patrol Yuma Sector Chief Chris Clem joined as my guest today on the Hill to share his firsthand experiences with my colleagues. From technology to personnel, we must prioritize border security.
