Today marks the 61st anniversary of the death of W. E. B. Du Bois in Accra, Ghana.
Last year we produced this video to honor the departure from the realm of the living of this titan of scholarship and activism: https://t.co/FSVjXRaCva
In his book Black Reconstruction in America, Du Bois cites the Civil War and the subsequent era of Southern Black political power as being "the kernel and meaning of the labor movement in the U.S." and calls for multi-racial worker unity to continue the Reconstruction revolution.
@saoirsethree I really need to sit my ass down and just read Black Reconstruction in America. An event just as important as the French Revolution or Cultural Revolution imo
In Black Reconstruction in America, W.E.B. Du Bois outlines the general strike thesis: that enslaved people fled plantations during the Civil War as a collective general strike against the system of slavery.
