That said, small patches are literally all small mammals and insects have nowadays. So why can't you value both humans and flora/fauna? We can coexist. Be creative.

I can't speak for the school, but I wonder if the construction company has an environmental mitigation plan in place to replace the trees?

This is so as not to disturb residential blocks with noise during pickup. My sense is that many residents would happily take the tradeoff of less trash on their street for a minor disruption, but I'd love to hear more from residents on that.
