உலகின் நான்காவது பெரிய இந்தியப் படைக்கு எதிராக படைக்கலமேந்த இலங்கைத் தீவில் யார் துணிவர். தேசியத் தலைவர் துணிந்ததோடு நிற்காமல் வெற்றியும் பெற்றார். இந்திய தமிழீழப் போர் அவரது கொண்ட கொள்கையின் மீதான உறுதி, இடுக்கணழியாமை, விடாமுயற்சிக்கு பல சான்றுகளைத் தருகின்றது.

தொடக்க காலத்தில் படைக் கலமேந்திப் போராட்டத்தை முன்நின்று நடத்திய அவர், தேவை ஏற்படும்போது தானே முன்நின்று போராட்டத்தை நடத்த அஞ்சார் என்பதை தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகளிடம் இருத்து படைக்கலங்கள் தொலைத் தொடர்புக்கருவிகளை இந்திய அரசு கைப்பற்றிய போது அதற்கெதிராக நீரும் பருகாது உன்னா நோன்பிருந்து போராடியதன் மூலம் எடுத்துக்காட்டினார். அந்த நேரத்தில் இந்தியாவில் இருந்த மற்றைய அமைப்புக்களிடமும் இவ்வாறு இந்திய அரசு நடந்துகொண்டது என்பதனையும் அவர்கள் இந்திய நடவடிக்கையால் அச்சமடைந்து செய்வதறியாது வாளாதிருந்தனர் என்பதையும் கவனத்தில் எடுத்தல் முக்கியமாகும்.

தேசியத் தலைவரின் இன்னுமொரு சிறப்பியல்பு அறிவியல், நவீன தொழில்நுட்பம் குறித்த அவரது தேடலாகும். அவரது இந்தத் தேடலும் தமிழீழப்போராட்டத்தின் வளர்ச்சிக்கு முக்கியமாக அமைந்தது. பல தடவைகளில் சிங்களப் படையின் படைக்கலங்களிலும் சிறந்த படைக்கலன்களை தமிழீழ விடுதலைப் புலிகள் பயன்படுத்தியுள்ளனர். படைக்கலங்கள் குறித்த விடயங்களில் அவர் ஒரு தகவல் களஞ்சியம்: புதிய தொழில்நுட்பத்தை பயன்படுத்தும் வேளையில் எம்மிடம் இருக்கும் வளங்களைப் பயன்படுத்தும் வகையில் புதிய புனைவுடன் படைகலங்களை வடிவமைப்பதில் அவர் மிகுந்த சுவனமெடுப்பதுண்டு. அதில் அவர்பெரும் வெற்றிகளையும் கண்டுள்ளார்.

தமிழர் படை நவீன அறிவியலில் பின் தங்கிவிடக் கூடாது என்பதற்காக படைக்கலங்கள் குறித்த ஆங்கில நூல்களை தமிழாக்கம் செய்யும் பணியை அவர் போராட்டத்தின் ஆரம்ப காலத்தில் தொடங்கிய போதும் 1984இல் படைத்துறை செயலகம் ஒன்றை அமைத்து முறையான தமிழாக்கத்திற்கு வழிசமைத்தார். பலநுறு நூல்கள் தமிழாக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. அதேபோல குறிப்பாகப் போராட்டம் குறித்த பல விடயங்களும் தமிழாக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளன. சிறந்தபல நாகரிகங்கள், பேரரசுகள் தொழில் நுட்ப பழமையைப்பேணி வளர்ச்சியில் அக்கறை காட்டாமையினாலேயே வீழ்ந்தன என்பதை அவர் தெளிவாக உணர்ந்துள்ளார்.

Every election, they return wearing the mask of Tamil representation, speaking of justice, dignity, and the people. Yet behind those speeches lies a record that cannot be erased: fear, detention, torture, bloodshed, legal intimidation, betrayal, and the deliberate silencing of Tamil genocide victims. While families of the forcibly disappeared continue their decades-long struggle for truth and justice, alleged perpetrators are protected while victims are ignored, threatened, or silenced.

They appear before the people for votes, make promises, and disappear once the election is over. That is not leadership, it is the political exploitation of suffering.

You may deceive voters and control the narrative, but you cannot erase the Tamil genocide, alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity, extrajudicial killings, or the memory of the forcibly disappeared. You cannot silence their families or deceive history.

The killing of 17 Action Against Hunger (ACF) humanitarian workers in Muttur in August 2006 remains one of the most serious unresolved attacks on humanitarian personnel in Sri Lanka.

Remembering the victims is important, but remembrance alone is not enough. When will there be a credible, independent investigation and genuine accountability for those responsible?

The families have waited long enough for truth and justice.

I remain horrified by the continued discoveries of mass graves in Chemmani, and the tragic stories of those murdered at the hands of the Sri Lankan state. As of today, nearly 600 sets of human remains have been exhumed, including the remains of infants and children.

Chemmani is not an isolated atrocity. It is evidence of the wider pattern of enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings and systematic genocide committed against the Tamil people.

For Tamil genocide survivors, families of the disappeared, and my constituents in Scarborough - Rouge Park, this is not a distant tragedy. Many came to Canada carrying the grief of loved ones who never returned and questions that remain unanswered. Every set of remains unearthed reopens those wounds while strengthening the demand for truth, identification, accountability and justice.

The perpetrators of genocide cannot investigate their own crimes. Canada and the global community must back an independent international investigation to collect evidence, identify victims through DNA, and ensure forensic experts oversee the process.
