Returning here for the first time in months (ugh, E Musk) to say: please sign and share. A temp suspension is good but not enough, and Local 802 needs to know that it can never do this again. https://t.co/QsEcZvEscv
I’m told that Liang Wang and Matthew Muckey did not play in last night’s @nyphil concert. (Muckey was supposed to play principal trumpet on at least one piece; Wang has been absent since earlier this week.)
Rapists are expensive: in the wake of @Sammy_Sussman 's article about rape by @nyphil musicians, Zeneba Bowers adds up the numbers to determine that this incident has cost the Philharmonic around $3 million. And orchestras are struggling for money. Ha. https://t.co/raNkRW3LGG
Musicians Liang Wang and Matthew Muckey were fired from the New York Philharmonic for sexual misconduct. Why are they back playing with the orchestra? https://t.co/NfQJYLg0mK
@Kitezh11 Not much. There's one in the basses, too. The women leaders who are rostered in this orchestra seem to be off-camera, which is kind of like the ones in the seconds, too.
Happy New Year! Here's a photo from the VPO's 2023 New Year concert. Zoom in on the winds and brass and note the arrangement of second violins. This Nazi propaganda, virtually unchanged, is broadcast to millions by fancy broadcasters still in 2023.
About the New Year's Vienna Show:
Imagine if Christian Thielemann (scheduled for 2024, did 2019), Franz Welser-Möst (2023, 2013), Daniel Barenboim (2022, 2014, 2009), Riccardo Muti (2021, 2018, 2004), Andris Nelsons (2020), Gustavo Dudamel (2017),
Is it that it hasn't occurred to them to say something? (Anybody know them and want to forward my suggestion to them?) Is it that they benefit from having no women called in to conduct this program? Are they worried about offending their friends? Help me out here.
They'd still be Uber-Fancy Men. They might even get some positive publicity for it. They have absolutely nothing to lose.
So, what is the reason that they are not scheduling this Zoom call?
To any male conductor who doesn't know what I'm talking about when I complain that women are excluded, I'd very much appreciate your taking the time to read this:

@Vienna_Phil - it's time for taking some big-kid steps into the present, where women composers, conductors and musicians live.
Come on in, folks. The water's fine.

Keep in mind that the one woman--the lowest paid of the five people--would likely not occupy a similar position in this year's report, as she was temporarily filling the vacancy of the now-reinstated principal oboist.
Sometimes, it's valuable to look at these congratulatory pieces in terms of income. I'm attaching the orchestra players detailed in the NYPhil's publicly available Form 990 from 2020 (the most recent available.)
