Dangote's refinery IPO opened today. The offer closes on 13 October 2026, not tonight.
Abeg, breathe.
You don't have to buy shares today because everybody around you seems to be buying. You have time to read the prospectus, understand the business and ask questions before deciding whether you want in.
An IPO gives you an opportunity to buy part of a business. It does not promise that your money will grow. Share prices can fall, and dividends are not guaranteed.
Look at your own finances before looking at somebody else's screenshot.
Rent due next week? School fees waiting? Money for food, transport or an emergency? Leave those funds out of the excitement.
No let FOMO make you carry money wey you suppose use chop go buy shares.
If you decide to participate, use an approved channel and money you can afford to put at risk. Ask a licensed adviser about anything you don't understand.
You can admire the refinery and still take your time with the investment.
Nobody sharing their purchase online knows what you need that money for next month.

Food for thought: Do not judge someone worth by who they are today and what they earn today. Remember, tomorrow is pregnant and know one knows what it will birth.

We started this journey two years ago, and somehow it took me all the way from Nigeria to South Africa. 🇳🇬🇿🇦
So much growth, so many lessons, incredible people, and memories along the way.

Mrs Elohor Aiboni is the new Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria.
She studied Chemical Engineering in UNIBEN and graduated in 1999, before joining Shell in 2002, rising through the ranks to now become #1 person in Shell Nigeria, first female to rise to that position.
Confirmed: Former Nigerian Neurosurgeon, Dr. Salamat Ahuoiza Aliu-Ibrahim explains why she left Nigeria.
“I left because I wanted better opportunities and professional growth. I wanted to practice Neurosurgery in U.S. but I didn’t match. So I decided to go for Pediatrics, a field I also love.
After my pediatric residency training, I needed to find a job in an area designated medically underserved due to my visa type. Joplin, Missouri, fits that description, and that is how I found my way to Freeman Health System. This is my home now.”
PS: She’s not currently practicing pediatric neurosurgery.
Pediatric neurosurgery is a subspecialty of neurosurgery, not pediatrics. To become a pediatric neurosurgeon in the U.S., she would first have needed to complete a neurosurgery residency and then undertake additional fellowship training in pediatric neurosurgery. Which she didn’t.
She now lives in Missouri with her husband and three kids.

The average Gen Z worker now stays in a job about 1.1 years, the shortest of any generation. More than half are quietly browsing for the next role, and nearly half admit they are coasting, doing just enough to stay employed. Older managers call this disloyalty. I think it is something colder and more rational than that.
Gen Z watched. They watched a parent give twenty loyal years to a company that laid them off by email in a reorg. They absorbed the lesson their elders refuse to say out loud, that the modern employment deal is not loyalty for loyalty. It is a short-term transaction both sides pretend is a relationship. Gen Z simply stopped pretending. They treat the job like what it has actually become, because that is how it has treated everyone who came before them.
The coasting is the part worth understanding, not scolding. A person coasts when effort has been cut loose from reward. If working harder does not visibly change your pay, your title, or your security, then holding effort back is not laziness. It is an accurate reading of the incentives in front of you. People are not irrational. They are reading the room.
The companies bleeding the most from this keep trying to fix it with pizza and slogans. The real fix is boring and expensive. Tie effort to consequence again. Promote from within. Pay people before they have to leave to get a raise. Show them a path they can actually see.
A generation did not suddenly become allergic to work. They became allergic to pouring themselves into something that would not pour back.
