Our existing beliefs about science and history are under constant assault by new evidence. Why would you assume people in the past were right?

If delusion is the sole requirement for fitting into the same category as a mad man, then this category includes 2/3rds of the world. Which hardly seems reasonable.

@maximilianog @DrFrankTurek No one would describe them as a charlatan nor a madman. Plenty of honest religious people make fantastical claims (reincarnation, etc) and we don't describe them as such. But we consider them mistaken about reality.

Isn't this a valid option given the facts?
