Do not talk poorly about yourself. Ever ever ever. Even when you don’t like yourself. Find different words, redirect your thoughts, interrupt internal negative sentences with completely different messaging.
Give your hands something to do, give your mind somewhere else to go and then deliberately practice speaking to yourself in ways that strengthen the person you want to become.
You also don’t need to force self into exaggerated self love or say things you don’t believe. Start with language that’s true enough to you/for you and just keep it constructive. That’s all you have to do.
Speak about what you are learning to yourself. What you are practicing? What did you handle well in the last hours or days. What do you want to do differently tomorrow, etc. Speak on what is still possible.
You do NOT have to continue thinking bad thoughts or even finishing their sentences just because they started up in your head. Catch them as early as you can. The moment you notice yourself beginning to speak against yourself, interrupt the sentence with anything empowering, even just “different words”
And, when the mind starts turning against you, put your hands to work and give your attention something outside of self to follow.
I highly recommend learning limbic / brain retraining for this if it’s very long / old as a habit so you can rewire brain.
Also, make sure you aren’t in functional freeze (you can google my post on functional freeze, can be very helpful to know if this is your nervous system state)
It’s so fucked up how I lowkey got turned into a pariah for having the audacity to be honest about the ongoing pandemic that is very obviously fucking happening
the thing about living with chronic pain after you’ve done the work on your mental health is that you don’t want to jill yourself anymore but also it would be super cool to not have a physical body anymore
