@karinsandstrom There's some discussion of similar issues in the mailing list archive. Something that seems to help is cranking up the wind mass loss rates, but not sure if you'll get through fast enough. The issue is that MESA is simulating something with a short physical timescale.

@toomanyspectra This proceeding claims they don't go through a red giant phase, though the last time I ran a MESA model of a 0.08 Msun star for 10^13 years it did do something interesting at the end of its life, but I never dug into the difference. https://t.co/BszDjMvOyO
