When not hiding my kids' noses behind furniture I write, philosophize, & fiddle. SO EDEN SANK TO GRIEF, a science fiction parable, releases February 27, 2024.
Just to clarify, when people speak of "toxic masculinity" they do not mean "masculinity, all of which is toxic." They mean "the kind of masculinity that's toxic." It's a particular conception of what it is to be a man that's being challenged, not manhood itself.
"TRUMP IS A TYRANT! " Rand Paul calls out Trump on the Senate floor, revealing his authoritarian regime and illegal governance! With a corrupt GOP Supreme Court and colluding House Republicans, they are stealing your tax money while creating divisions among us!
Soaring tariffs are driving up expenses, neglecting veterans, healthcare, education, and Social Security! If we do not take action IMMEDIATELY, fascism will take away our freedoms!"
Three years ago today, Russia launched an unprovoked, brutal invasion of Ukraine. A few short weeks later, @KarenPence and I travelled with @SamaritansPurse and witnessed firsthand the flood of women and children fleeing the Russian onslaught near the Ukrainian border. We will never forget it.
Every day since, Ukrainian soldiers have bravely fought and died on this front line of freedom and the American people and our Allies have rightly given them the means to defend their nation. As Leader of the Free World, America must continue to Stand Strong and lead free nations to give Ukraine the support they need to win a victory for their sovereignty, security and freedom. BREAKING: CNN just aired this devastating montage of all the times Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham said that USAID was vital to America’s national security interests. Just another example showing how spineless Rubio and Graham really are
At the press conference outside of USAID headquarters, Senator Brian Schatz:
"If you want to change an agency, introduce a bill and pass a law. You cannot wave away an agency that you don't like or that you disagree with by executive order, or by literally storming into the building and taking over the servers. That is not how the American system of government works."
Nailed it!
The situation room, dead of night. The nation's harried leaders discuss the new crisis in urgent tones. Then, from the end of the table, a voice cuts in: "It's called the weave. It's genius. People say how genius it is. No president has been more brilliant. The WEAVE."
Trump appears to be unraveling live on stage
“When I say insane asylums, and then I say, Doctor Hannibal Lecter, does anybody know? They go crazy. They say, oh, he brings up these names out of— Well, that's genius. Right. Doctor Hannibal Lecter. There's nobody worse than him. Silence of the Lambs. Who the hell else would even remember that? I have a great memory, but they always hit me. I don't bring it up too much because they have to take such a— he brought up Hannibal Lecter. What does that have to do with this? What is it? It has everything to do with it, right? He was… So I've done something for you for you that I haven't done in 20 speeches. I brought up Doctor Hannibal Lecter and we're allowing him, you watch, you watch these fake people will say again, he brought up Hannibal Lecter has absolutely nothing to do. You know I do the weave, right? The weave. It's genius. You bring up Hannibal Lecter, you mention insane asylum. Hannibal Lecter. You go out, no. There'll be a time in life where the weave won't finish properly at the bottom and then we can talk. But right now it's pure genius. Hey, I have an uncle, my uncle, Uncle John, my father's brother, 41 years at MIT, longest serving professor has so many degrees, he didn't know what the hell to do with them all in the most complicated. I understand a lot of this stuff, you know, I believe in that. Like, I mean, Jack Nicklaus is not gonna produce a bad golfer. Right. You know, that's the way it works. It's just one of those things and it's in the family and it's whatever”
Those trying to flip the "weird" label onto Democrats keep tarring themselves w/ it. They don't get that "weird" is being used as a gentle euphemism for "creepy." So they've been using it as bullies do: not to call out creeps but to pick on those who are different. #Weird
@elonmusk A take on this conflict that doesn't straw-man the other side: Americans agree that all and only citizens should vote. But policies favoring "all" clash with policies favoring "only." So, which is more important? That *all* with a right to vote get to, or that *only* they do?
Beware of any theology that keeps saying “God saved them” when the shooter misses and “thoughts and prayers” when they don’t, but never has the courage to ask “what is God asking that we do to prevent shootings from happening in the first place?”
There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.
#Butker is, in short, not a deep thinker and so not especially good at imparting the kind of advice that is likely to be helpful and inspiring to new college graduates. Fortunately, his job is to kick a football, not impart wisdom. He should probably stick to that from now on. 7/
When *women* are singled out for this message, it sounds like an effort to reinforce gender roles that so often lead women to neglect self-development. 2/
...namely a society in which women are pushed into patterns that lead them to live so fully for others they lose their sense of self. Since true intimacy is about the sharing of *selves*, true human intimacy is one of the causalities. 6/
