#HSBH2009 This week I learnt the difference between mHealth and eHealth - eHealth encompasses the use of all technology to improve health, mHealth on the other hand looks specifically at mobile technology and how it can be used by individuals to achieve better health outcomes.
#HSBH2009 A lot of the focus for mHealth can be on fitness apps and step counting but I find mindfulness and meditation apps also highly effective to help calm my thoughts and fall asleep. Have you ever used a mindfulness app? If so what are your thoughts?
As a student also studying nursing I do think virtual reality is a useful tool to help practice nursing skills in a simulated hospital environment to build confidence and expertise before going on placement! #HSBH2009
This is a great app that I use frequently and find very helpful as it helps me track and plan when my period will come! It just shows you how much eHealth is integrated into our lives already! #HSBH2009
Another great use of eHealth through the ‘Clue’ period tracking app which allows females to track their bleeding, mood, cravings, pain and so much more. This app also helps those trying to fall pregnant by predicting fertile days. #HSBH2009
This week in #HSBH2009 I learnt a new term - gamification which means to add game mechanics into non-game scenarios. For example, an app helping individuals to adhere to their medication by receiving points when they take their medication on time! How interesting!
@AlanaRoseMR That is such a good idea! I too use it to procrastinate, where I swap it out for watching tv. I am now very conscious of this and try to limit my phone use by doing something more productive such as going on a walk or sitting in the sun (if it is a sunny day) #HSBH2009
@AlanaRoseMR I am similar! I do notice a change in my social media habits often related to what is going on in my life. If I am busy I go on social media less, but if I am feeling down I will go on it more as a distraction. Do you use it as a source of procrastination at all? #HSBH2009
@Sarah_Healey_@AlanaRoseMR Did you feel stressed at all having no internet and forced to take a social media detox? I know I didn't but that was also a few years ago, I wonder if it would be different now knowing I use social media more than I used to, to connect with friends. #HSBH2009
@SashaRoscher I completely agree! The potential for technology in the health sector is huge. As for my own tech literacy I am the same, definitely room for improvement but I think that's what makes it exciting to learn about! What is one standout thing you have come across so far? #HSBH2009
Week 3 of #HSBH2009 saw us acting out a #telehealth interaction. It wasn't until I was a participant that I realised although there are many positives to telehealth, nothing beats in person, face to face contact. What are your thoughts?
During Covid, social media helped me feel connected with my friends and family, making isolation more bearable as I knew I wasn't alone! What was your experience? I would love to hear your thoughts on social media and mental health during lockdown! #HSBH2009
@SashaRoscher I completely agree! Telehealth is a great way to discuss mental health illnesses and provide necessary interventions that is accessible and non-confrontational way . Did you come across any other fields it would work just as well in throughout your research?
During my #HSBH2009 research, I came across this article examining the effectiveness of remote consultations for treating anxiety related disorders. Definitely worth a read especially with the increased prevalence of anxiety during COVID-19!

@SashaRoscher The first role play in particular was based around grasping the extent and nature of an injury which I feel is done more effectively in person as the ankle can be lightly touched and examined closely whereas via a video call, it cannot. What are your thoughts?
@KrestinaAmon In the context of a physiotherapy consult I found online was difficult to be able to grasp the extent of an injury as the camera quality does not show swelling and redness very well. I also found it was harder to build a relationship with the client as it felt more impersonal.
And with that I have joined Twitter! Thankyou #HSBH2009 for two fabulous weeks so far. I look forward to continue learning all about eHealth and sharing my thoughts :))
