@TerryGillan_ @GeeWhizzOxley@gliderdrew@danielhurstbne that's silly. they have one of the biggest indiginous arts museums in Paris that is full of Australian Indigenous artists's work. That's just a single example of them caring about Australia. it puts our national galleries to shame.
@Alan_Wakeley@simonahac@sideen_dan the whole story? massive privatised profits and the costs born by the populations in developing world nations that are already seeing crop failures, mass starvations, resource wars as a results, mass migrations… all children in all nations — rich and small will pay very dearly.
@Alan_Wakeley@simonahac@sideen_dan what's the other side of the coal (and LNG) exports story? fossil fuels need to be left in the ground in order to stay under 2.0 ºC — some climate scientists believe we have virtually no realistic chance of staying under 2.0 ºC (which isn't safety guardrail we were told it is).
@Alan_Wakeley@simonahac@sideen_dan what on Earth makes you think the traditional owners of that land (for 20K to 60K+ years) holding ongoing sacred ceremony there right now, are somehow proxies for someone they probably never heard of in @simonahac?! ditto the youth movement. ditto enviro movement. ur delusional!
@Alan_Wakeley@simonahac@sideen_dan@Alan_Wakeley bio: "The marketplace of ideas needs input from right/left, business/union, religious/non-religious. But civil debate and free speech are entirely lost on the left."
wow. no ideological lock-step with far right neo-cons going on there. open minded for sure.
@Alan_Wakeley@simonahac@sideen_dan "none of the progressive commentary ever… repeat ever allows for nuance regarding our coal exports"
that is one of the most sweeping & false generalisations I've seen. if you consider progressive commentary through the twisted misrepresentations of Bolt, Jones et al, well sure.
Given the staggering lack of legislated policy solutions to our climate crisis WA Government, we must ask, are @MarkMcGowanMP, @RogerCookMLA@BillJohnstonMLA, The Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MP, @DawsoMLC totes fine with a 5 ºC pathway?
WA emissions are driving Aust GHGs up!
@heleneheleneso@art_src@simonahac@Barnaby_Joyce Gillard singularly failed to sell the Carbon Tax (which was more like an ETS with a temporary fixed price transitioning to parity with the EU floating price)
Every previous PM has done months of talkback to sell a major reform, especially a tax reform. Gillard opted out.
@kyliewr1 @LaurieOakes@latingle the "monumental debt issue" is a furphy though, one only too happily spread by neoliberal MPs on both sides of politics. Australian Government issues a sovereign currency, they are a currency creator not a currency user like other levels of government or anyone else. #MMT
#MorelandCouncil adopted new Procurement policy including:
"excluding from future contracts, tenders or business dealings any companies involved in the Adani mine &
associated rail infrastructure projects; and ... any companies involved in developing new coal mines." #StopAdani
@dylanjmcconnell curtailment will be a fact of life as we get past 50% RE on WEM & NEM. it's just the nature of wind & PV that it's not economically sensible (or even possible) to arrange that net RE generation profile matches demand. Curtailment is low cost solution for capacity & bulk energy.
@nickymison@dylanjmcconnell like in Victoria they do help low income households and landlords (which benefits renters more than landlords)… for anybody with money in the bank PV is a better investment than ~zero% interest rates, because self-generation always beats network costs (which is ~50% of retail).
@Mountaingoat55@simonahac maybe someone from the T_+#$ administration still has the Twitter password upon being fired (they did all get fired didn't they, tell me they did!) and is mildly trolling us.
