I think your position (concern about performance) is very different from the people making noise, who seem to be more like the Hillary Clinton PUMAs or BernieBros -- didn't win primary and now want do-over.

I wanted to try simulating this myself, so I took a screenshot of the video to get the geometry, and wrote ~70 lines of Python, with the sim running in ~15 seconds, using torch to get GPU acceleration. (Link to Jupyter notebook in replies.)
