Here's the thing, if you only reduce Harry Kane's output to a singular number, you are fooling yourself.

Yes he scored a ton of goals but the context behind those goals is what really matters. It's the same reason why Modric and Rodri both won the Ballon d'Or. Their impact in every competition and their contribution inside of their role in the squad.

Harry Kane scored 18 goals and provided two assists in EVERY MATCH that Bayern Munich faced elimination in the Champions League and German Cup (12 matches), including a hatrick in the German Cup Final in which Bayern Munich won 3-0.

Harry Kane always put Bayern Munich in a position to win. He never went more than two matches in a row without a goal during the 2025/2026 season for Bayern Munich. That's across all club competitions, Champions League included.

Harry Kane also scored the first goal or the winning goal in 24 of the 51 matches he played in for Bayern Munich.

It's not about the number, it's about the context of the goal in terms of the match itself.

By saying goals don't matter, that means no striker should ever win the Ballon d'Or even though their role is to primarily score.

The irony here is that Harry Kane, as a striker, had more defensive contributions than Lamine Yamal.

The double irony here is that if you look at the metrics that a winger traditionally excels in over a striker because of their role in the squad and position on the pitch, Michael Olise had a better season than Lamine Yamal.

But not only is he a heavyweight goalscorer, he is also the creative, physical and emotional heart of a Bayern Munich side that won a domestic double and will again contend to become European champions.
