Prog/post/math rock enthusiast disguised as a U.S.-Asia policy junkie. Global education and public diplomacy practitioner, occasional hermit. Views are mine.

Great article on the state of Taiwan's digital democracy from @msmelissan! The framing of Taiwan & China as "digital states in parallel" w/digital democracy vs digital authoritarianism is an important one that will continue to shape governance & tech discourse worldwide.
To have a truly representative diplomatic corps, to expose more people to the invaluable work of diplomacy, to prepare future leadership, we need to make these opportunities at home and abroad accessible, affordable, and supportive. Thx @msmelissan for highlighting this!
This is important. I did one overseas. Only afforded to go via scholarship and a generous homestay. No housing or travel aid. Lived an hour away from the office, couldn't afford to ride in the FSO shuttle so rode subway until an FSO fought for me. Still owed DoS $ by the end.
Important perspectives on US-Taiwan education outreach here, w/ quotes from @jamestwotree@DafyddFell pointing out ways that Taiwan can fill area studies gaps in the US. I think the US-TW Education Initiative is a chance for TW to develop key public diplomacy tools
I was quoted in this article on Taiwan and higher education in the US following AIT Director Christensen’s comments about the void left by Confucius Institutes. Thanks @Nick1Aspinwall for reaching out and writing this important article.

@daphnekylee Revenge of the Sweets~ I’ve done introspective/identity formation baking (?) as a means of connecting with my heritage and use the process of baking as an analogy to sociocultural identity construction cuz I’m a lil insane. Is it tembleque or is it the post-colonial dream?? Yes
@daphnekylee “I see you have constructed a new lightsaber... your skills are complete.” *jealous breathing* when I was growing up I got one of those build-a-lightsaber kits, even came with kyber crystals that activated different sounds. Ahh the good ole days
Excited to see this great lineup tomorrow! @lnachman32 low-key hoping you can also tie in @taiwansongaday somehow, obvi US-TW music ties should be a top priority
@kharisborloff I want to learn more too! @ironypoisoning Not sure if this helps, but @UWTaiwanStudies hosted a great talk this summer with Indigenous scholar Prof. Lenglengman Rovaniyaw of Nat'l Dong Hwa Univ/東華大學 about Indigenous Studies in Taiwan and her own work https://t.co/iEFQY9HSpj
Very excited to see this! I’m hoping it will spur the growth of TW Studies as a distinct field in US education. Long way to go but places like @UWTaiwanStudies@gwusigurcenter and many others are helping. I’ll be watching how the Initiative partners with schools to implement this
Great primer from @GerritWees about #Taiwan's history of fractured sovereignty. TW's gotten caught in the middle of changing rulers many times, & rarely if ever had space to be itself without needing to face some external power. @jamestwotree@catielila thought of your work too!
