Cari colleghi (uso il commento di Andrea come esempio di tutti gli altri) permettemi di ironizzare e poi chiedervi se ci fate o ci siete.

1. Da decenni dite peste e corna del sistema universitario italiano (europeo) e di quello europeo in generale
2. Siete fra i primi a dire che il ritardo scientifico e tecnologico europeo e' enorme ed occorre prendere provvedimenti straordinari per recuperare tale ritardo.
3. Insistete ossessivamente sul fatto che la politica dovrebbe, che la politica non fa, che la politica non capisce, eccetera.
4. Vi arriva una proposta (perfettibile, per carita' ... tra l'altro quella articolata manco l'avete vista perche' avete visto solo un editoriale riassuntivo sul @sole24ore che ci ha anche concesso un po' di spazio extra al fine di non essere troppo stringati) che propone una strada non del tutto folle per cambiare e che rispetta, appunto, i requisiti 1.-3. di cui sopra, che condividete.

Davvero l'unica cosa che riuscite a dirci e' "Bello, interessante ma impossibile"?

Davvero, alla luce dei 30 anni pregressi, suggerite di lasciar perdere perche' altrimenti l'establishment si oppone e l'establishment politico dominante pensa solo a essere rieletto e non al futuro?

Se le cose stanno cosi', tanto vale dire "Va bene quel che passa il convento e smettiamola di dire che l'universita' italiana non funziona e che la UE ha bisogno di una 'scossa' per non farsi massacrare dagli USA"!

Events in the Middle East and the Gulf region are unfolding extremely rapidly. Unfortunately, Ukraine knows all too well what this is about. Although Ukrainians never threatened Iran, the Iranian regime chose to become Putin’s accomplice and supplied him with “shahed” drones, and not only the drones themselves, but also the technologies to produce them. Iran also provided other weapons to Russia.

Over the course of this full-scale war, Russia has used more than 57,000 shahed-type attack drones against the Ukrainian people, cities, and energy infrastructure. Other nations have also suffered from Iranian-backed terror. Therefore, it is fair to give the Iranian people a chance to rid themselves of a terrorist regime and to guarantee security for all nations that have suffered from terror originating in Iran.

Our position is well known, and Ukraine has stated it repeatedly, including recently. It is important to preserve as many lives as possible. It is important to prevent the war from expanding. It is important that the United States is acting decisively. Whenever there is American resolve, global criminals weaken. This understanding must also come to the Russians.

People cannot know the day or the hour, yet every act of evil, terror, and aggression against neighbors ultimately meets a just response. We expect that, in the end, the Middle East region will become safer and more stable. Much has already changed toward that goal.

Ukraine is ready to help every nation so that security and justice increase, and terrorist regimes decrease.

Today in @NatureBiotech, we report engineered DNA recombinases with up to 53% integration efficiency and 97% genome-wide specificity at an endogenous human locus, inserting large DNA cargoes up to 12 kb for stable expression in primary human T cells, stem cells, and non-dividing cells

Today in @ScienceMagazine, we report a new DNA editing technology to seamlessly write massive changes into the right place in the human genome.

The reason gene editing hasn't transformed human health is that current gene editing technologies like CRISPR are very limited.

The problem with CRISPR is that it cuts up your DNA, and then hopes that unreliable cellular DNA repair will make the wanted edit. @geochurch famously called it genome vandalism. More precise versions of CRISPR only edit less than 100 bases - often only a single base. Therefore, it's not suited to make large changes safely.

However, most diseases are not the result of mutations in one location. Instead, their causes are spread all across the 3 billion base pairs in the genome.

We found bridge RNAs in bacterial “jumping genes” that allow us to make safe and arbitrary changes (insert, cut out, or flip) to every nucleotide within (up to) a 1 million bp sequence in your DNA.

In the paper, we show that we can correct the disease-causing DNA repeats that cause Friedreich's ataxia (which is a rare neurological disease). The same approach could be applied to Huntington’s and other repeat expansion disorders.
At @arcinstitute, we're working towards a full Turing machine for biology. Evo, our DNA foundation model, helps us design the optimal healthy DNA sequences. And Bridge recombination gives us the ability to seamlessly write these changes into the right place in the genome.
