Tomorrow I’m doing my second #HYROX (🤮) and also fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. Don’t make me suffer for nothing! Please donate no matter how small ❤️❤️ #JustGiving https://t.co/on5JUNOiBk
@ShaneJura@plumbers_urban@Mike_Sammon Ignore him. I’ve been EV since 2017. The new ones even an idiot could it work.
My first would only do 50 miles in winter, that was stressful. My 75kWh Pug is so under utilised it’s unreal. Save £5k compared to diesel, and no de-icing windscreens. Ever
@EggleshawRob Pretty much yes, with a small setback overnight or if we’re not in. Due to the age and construction of our house it’s better to maintain a temperature inside to help prevent damp, plus the dogs would complain if it got too cold
Crunched the numbers on running costs for yesterday on my home @vaillantuk heat pump running off the @OVOEnergy Heat Pump Plus 15p/kWh tariff
With temperatures around 0°, it was needing to produce high flow temps, plus also dealing with regular defrosts, so COP was only 3 (1/3)
@EggleshawRob A modern condensing gas boiler working at around 50° flow would be somewhere around 90% efficiency. You need your kWh usage rather than hours. You could establish what that is by reading your gas meter twice over a 24h period (when it’s around 0° if that’s the data you want)
@L__Bow@vaillantuk@OVOEnergy It’s great, allows you to run the HP in the most mechanically sympathetic way possible, instead of aggressively ramping for a few hours (or investing £££’s in batteries)
@plumbers_urban Was 45kWh the day before, but that was trying to get it back up to temp after the holiday, so not a fair comparison really.
Old and uninsulated, but at least it has ‘character’
So with the right tariff, even on the worse day yet of the year, in a leaky old cottage, it’s STILL cheaper to run a HP compared to a gas boiler. When it’s milder outside, say 8-12° (which is most of the year), I’m seeing savings of almost 50%
40.3kWh’s used over the 24 hours to keep the house warm and water hot, cost a total of £6.04. Compared to a gas boiler running at 90% efficiency on 6p/kWh, which would have cost £7.95 to pruduce the 132.5kWh required to achieve the same level of energy as the heat pump (2/3)
@Damon_BPHR@OctopusEnergy Been waiting 6 weeks since asking for ours to be removed. We can’t escalate till we’ve waited another 2 weeks 🤪 Hope you’re spending my standing charge on something fun
@Openenergymon I’ve finally purged the air from my own HP install and stopped the metering errors with the axioma flow meter (had a lot on 😅)
How long will it need to run without errors before I’m back on the main list? 4 days clean now 🤌
@Openenergymon 🥳 I guess the answer is 5 days with no errors. Cheers guys. Bit embarrassing to have my own HP with errors, but home jobs are always last on the list
And lo, there will be no more gas burnt inside these walls. Expect maybe flambéing the odd crêpe suzette (unlikely). Now just need to get @OctopusEnergy to remove our gas meter #renewables#singas#electrification
