After living overseas 5 years & paying a minimal amount to keep my Aussie number with @Optus, today I got advised that they now require me to pay for a roaming pack (≥$5 per DAY) just to keep my number active to receive 2FA codes. What a shame.

@sapphiremusicau Not quite true. I live in Japan and in the event of typhoons (such as recent Faxai and Hagibis in Kanto Region [Tokyo]), virtually all lines are pre-emptively closed for passenger safety. However I agree with everything else you said :)
