"Am an A+++ at work, but at home I would give myself..."- one of the most charming moments from #WeTheWomen in London is celebrated economist @GitaGopinath with her report-card & husband @IqbalDhali - an IAS Topper who left the service to be closer to his wife, with his verdict. Most inspiring & endearing conversation- in full here https://t.co/ojRFI5Ca8h
Poor-quality diets contribute to the double burden of #malnutrition & non-communicable diseases. A sustainable #FoodSystem & food #environment can make #nutritious foods available, affordable, convenient, & desirable while also being environment friendly.

Confession: sometimes I feed my kids ultraprocessed foods.
Why? It's simple: lack of time.
If we're going get UPFs out of people's diets, we're going to have to address upstream factors that make it hard for families to afford the time and financial costs of healthy food.
Shocking findings below👇of foods marketed for infants & young children (under 3y) in 7 SE Asian countries;
- Almost 50% ultra-processed
- >30% contained cosmetic additives
- Almost 1/3rd additives not permitted by Codex baby food standards

A special shout out to Rahul Dravid. A man of great class, great dignity and just a fantastic giver. India U19, India 'A' and now this. Top man. Great Indian.
In India, you really got to be lucky. Lucky that you were not standing under the largest billboard or driving over a rickety railway bridge or sitting inside a cab outside the capital airport or walking on the road in the middle of the night. It's so shameful and sad.
Extremely thrilled to share my new paper on sustainable and resilient attributes of Ho community’s food systems https://t.co/7sKCuNAdbW via @IOPenvironment#paperalert
"Leadership is language". Words are powerful tools that energise or deflate, inspire or dishearten. When we talk about "resources" rather than "people", or use "they" rather than "we" or say someone is lazy or use "must" or "have to" or abbreviations excessively, we set the culture. There are some great examples of leadership teams identifying words they want to use more & less often & holding each other to account for it: https://t.co/46cl1VGwTF Via @ant_murphy@noelito
#latepost A new publication from our team-we assessed the perceptions of Ho tribe on the influence of COVID-19 pandemic on different aspects of food security. https://t.co/OtdI57l4Hm
One of my pet peeves: When women are praised in hiring/promotion meetings for being “selfless”, “nice”, “helpful”, “humble”, etc. It broadcasts to women that our success depends on us being self-effacing/deferential instead of smart, productive, talented, & excellent at our jobs.
It's been almost 7 years since I became a parent.
In that time, I've heard a lot of subtle and *not* so subtle skepticism about "making it" as both a mother & a scientist. Here's my response, published in Nature today:

🆕STATEMENT: WFP is pausing the delivery of lifesaving food assistance to Northern Gaza until safe conditions are in place for our staff and the people we are trying to reach.
Our decision to pause deliveries to the north has not been taken lightly. The safety and security to deliver critical food aid - and for the people receiving it - must be ensured.
