🇮🇱🟩✴️🟥Rahm Emmanuel writes: "Israel lost the US, gained Somaliland." Cute, Rahm, cute.
Somaliland('s recognition of Israel and vice versa) is a big deal. It proves the Abraham Accords weren't just a flash in the pan but a growing movement of sanity in the Arab world.
Somaliland (which is NOT Somalia) is the second tranche.
I wrote about it this week in my column, the wider geopolitics of all this.

Israel 🤝 Somaliland: Advancing Economic Cooperation
Yesterday, Israel’s Ministry of Finance hosted Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi in Jerusalem, together with the Governor of the Central Bank and a senior ministerial delegation, for a working meeting with Minister of Finance @bezalelsm, Chief Economist Dr. Shmuel abramzon, and Israeli Ambassador to Somaliland Michael lotem.
The discussion focused on strengthening economic relations and expanding opportunities for trade, investment, and private-sector cooperation between Israel and Somaliland.
The parties reviewed the significant economic potential for future collaboration and discussed the development of a governmental framework (“toolbox”) to support business activity, reduce regulatory barriers, and encourage mutual investment.
Israel remains committed to advancing international economic partnerships and creating new opportunities for growth and cooperation.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahiim;
I have arrived in Israel as the first President of the Republic of Somaliland to undertake a State Visit, and I am honoured by the warm welcome extended by my friend, President @Isaac_Herzog
For thirty-five years, the people of Somaliland have built a peaceful, democratic, and resilient nation. We asked the world: Do you see us? Israel answered first. Today marks a historic milestone in our journey and the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Somaliland and Israel.
To the people of Somaliland: I carry your hopes and aspirations with me. Generations have struggled, sacrificed, and persevered to bring our nation to this moment. We will seize this opportunity with confidence, wisdom, and determination, always guided by the interests of our people and our Republic.
Today, history is being written, and Somaliland stands ready to forge a shared future founded on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
