Back to my actual point, as someone who has actually worked in immigration, I can tell you that immigration outcomes depend on far more than simply "following the rules."

Visa eligibility, financial resources, employer sponsorship, family-based petitions, country caps, processing times, and access to competent legal representation all materially affect a person's ability to navigate the immigration system (costing over 50+ thousand dollars to do btw).

No one disputed that Melania ultimately immigrated legally. The point is that having substantial financial resources and access to experienced counsel makes navigating that system considerably easier than it is for the average applicant. Reducing immigration to "just do it legally" ignores how immigration law actually works.

I think your question is case in point why our education is failing us and why we are currently in the predicament we are in as a country.

It's quite easy let me simplify it in layman terms: Democracies are not built on blind obedience. They're built on the idea that there are times when individuals are willing to risk their careers, reputations, or freedom to speak according to their conscience.

Whether you agree with him is a separate question. The principle is that he believed something important enough to accept the consequences of saying it.
