The truth is, you have more options than that. Options that involve NON-PAYMENT.

The Department of Education can change its policy today. They do not have to garnish people's hard-earned paycheck — especially for a Department of Education that claims to be abolished and shut down.

Starting tomorrow, the Trump administration is set to send notices to 1,000 student loan borrowers (first round) noticing them of an intent to garnish their wages for student loan debt.

This is cruel and unnecessary.

This moment was objectively FUNNY, yes. But also…the response is concerning to me. Trump’s a rampant authoritarian fascist, who is rounding up people in the streets and putting them in concentration camps, sending U.S. military to occupy Gaza, doing extra-judicial killings off the coast of Venezuela, stoking war with Mexico, on and on. And, this is on the heels of Dick Cheney’s legacy of atrocities being reframed by the media. There are echoes of “Aww…look, George Bush can’t put on a poncho.”
