Canary Mission appears to be one of the leading pro-Israel organizations sending lists of people to the Trump administration for their round-ups. So let's look at what they have.
Their dossier on the student snatched in Sommerville, Mass., includes precisely two allegations: that she supported boycotting Israel and she co-authored an op-ed in support of student Senate resolutions (which passed) which were critical of Israel. In their own words:
Snatching an international student off our streets who is lawfully in our Country and attending one of our Universities and then bundling her off to an ICE detention center 1,700 miles away without a hearing is a sickening reminder of the Gestapo-like conduct from another age. I have asked for a full status report from ICE on the case of Rumeysa Ozturk, a legally authorized Turkish student at Tufts University. I will request her immediate return to Massachusetts.
We currently have about 80,000 foreign students attending more than 60 Colleges in the greater Boston/Cambridge area precisely because we have a reputation as a center of learning and intellectual, religious, and cultural tolerance. Let’s keep it that way.
"I can't help but think about what would happen if this was my daughter, if this was my niece?" @VinceWarren reacts to the detention of a Tufts University PhD student by ICE agents. "This is what the face of unfolding authoritarianism looks like."
This video is so disturbing. I’ve always considered myself pro-Israel. But if that now means arresting, jailing, and deporting someone whose only “crime” we know of was writing a pro-Palestine op-ed, then count me out. I want nothing to do with that.
I don’t care how much you disagree with what this woman wrote in her op-ed. A commitment to freedom of speech necessarily means defending that right even when the ideas expressed offend you. It is outrageous how many people refuse to apply that consistently.
Canary Mission, which relentlessly tracks pro-Palestine activists, compiled her “offenses,” which are the op-ed & that she supports divesting from Israel. If the govt has something else, they need to release it right now, because this is a horrific look. https://t.co/8QbIVEIutS
It is valid military protocol to "collapse" a residential building, with civilians inside, because one target visited?
If so, can a Yemeni or Palestinian blow up a 12-story apartment building in DC if they know a US military commander entered, or would we call that "terrorism"?
For more than 200 years, generations of Americans fought to make this a free country. Never perfect, but always aspiring to it.
MAGA ripping up that legacy to defend Israel against criticism or protest while it is starving a civilian population.
now that the gestapo is abducting anti-genocide students in broad daylight, do the zionists know that they are state-backed? do they realize they are goliath??
IT'S NOT NORMAL for a 23 year old to write his own eulogy because he knows he’s going to be targeted and killed
these kids aren't biblical figures they deserve to be stupid in their 20s and fall in love and have families and grow old like anyone else this isn't normal
NEW: ICE is hunting for Yunseo Chung, a Columbia student who attended pro-Palestine protests. Chung came to the US from Korea with her family at age 7, and was her high school's valedictorian. She's a lawful permanent resident. Here's what we know so far. 🧵
Korean student at Columbia is now the latest target of ICE, who have told her parents that her permanent residency status has been revoked.
Yunseo Chung was not an encampment leader—she just participated in a few protests. The dragnet is widening and now is the time to stand up.
