@macroguru9 Hiking rates aggressively … how will that work in a supply shock? Raising interest rates won’t make oil suddenly available.
Keynesian economics never works. All raising interest rates will do is destroy the economy.
@RiteshEconomist@RBI Nonsense … what’s stopping you from buying physical gold?
Has the Government impounded your passport that you cannot travel overseas?
@Iam_Gane@SMahashur Not possible legally?
Government can enact any law they want. Can you stop it?
They did that in the US when the gold standard broke.
@Iam_Gane@SMahashur So if Government can screw things up, they can legislate / confiscate gold held by ETFs in lieu of a government paper claim - same as SGB. I believe that this will ultimately happen.
@SMahashur Also, I’m not sure whether an ETF compulsorily imports gold into India. If the claims are in the LBMA, there are enough rumours of the gold having been leased multiple times. With UK on the verge of financial problems, there may be capital controls.
If ETFs do import, no issue
@SMahashur My point being that if you don’t trust the Government, why would you trust an ETF operating in the country. If the Government defaults, the rupee and country is done. An ETF won’t save you.
@SMahashur How does it matter? The Government will redeem it at the market price. An ETF would be riskier than the Government - no?
Point taken re. Smaller denominations
@duane2020a@GoldTelegraph Better to hold gold rather than Fiat which is losing value.
For countries, it eliminates country / geopolitical risk.
At times, it is more important to keep your money safe than make a 5% return on a 10y bond.
