@elonmusk Hopefully, existing owners who have purchased FSD outright will be able to transfer the purchase to a new owner, therefore adding value to the car with this move. If not, it will further devalue the car’s resale value because the new owner will have added cost post-sale.
@PresentWitness_ If you borrow for 3% and invest for 5% you are making money as long as you dont lose 2% on the exchange rate. Times like this you do and people try to unwind these trades (sell USD, buy JPY).
@PresentWitness_ Doubt people run to safety in China right now.
What seems more likely is the basis trade reversing. Basis trade is if you borrow in a low interest rate currency (Jap. Yen) and invest in a high interest currency (USD).
@PresentWitness_ If some people think the Chinese currency is worth less than the “official price” (=exchange rate) people would convert their money (they cannot freely). People “dumping China” and “buying US” would mean a stronger USD and lower US yields.
@jfschneidr I have real data on this. It’s actually higher for certain specialties. We see triple no show rates compared to pre-COVID. We have doctors compensate through tech. Double and triple booking slots. Most practices say they are booked out 3 months…this hedges the existing bookings.
