It’s been quite a year. I’m pleased yet still see room for improvement. However, it won’t make me happy. When I was 20 I needed the fancy car, Porsche, Ferrari, Jaguar etc, 30 I had to have an Audemar and a bunch of watches I never wore, 40 Houses and at 50+ I could care less about any of it. Most of the bs you crave wont matter much as the years go on. Health , family, friends and freedom to live as you please, will. This is happiness

In order to understand the significance of the moment, you need to understand the transformational changes taking place in the news/entertainment business.

Even during the era of cable news, organizations had their headquarters in big cities, and management had direct, in-person relationships with people in positions of power across politics and industry.

Today, people like Joe Rogan or Tucker Carlson can operate global media companies from the middle of nowhere and mostly don’t care what anyone in D.C. thinks about it (or them).

The Republicans who now own the counterculture have largely embraced this form of media, while the Democratic establishment is struggling to figure out its messaging and how to appeal to independent voters, many of whom are regular listeners of programs like these.

It’s not a coincidence that America’s most captivating politician in more than a generation was a reality TV star with a giant Twitter account.

The most successful politicians are social influencers with large followings and a unique sense of presence, communication, timing, and uninhibition that is tailor-made for the social media age.

Aspiring politicians used to set their sights on Yale Law School with another eye on local politics. Now, anyone looking to fast-track him or herself into elected office should set up a YouTube channel and a social media account and do whatever it takes to differentiate themselves and pander to the algorithm.

I don’t think those future politicians will be Joe Rogan or even Tucker Carlson, but I do expect to see more social media influencers, podcasters, and YouTube stars with large enough audiences to begin making the jump to Washington, especially on the Democratic side if Kamala Harris loses in 2024.
