One observation:

I saw news reports that the Industries Minister has stated we would achieve 100% MoU conversion, unlike the previous government, which had achieved only 72% MoU conversion.

I have been repeating that our Industries Minister needs to take inputs from Guidance Tamil Nadu or outstanding officers like Vishnu Venugopal, who works directly under the Chief Minister.

Usually in India, the MoU conversion rate rarely exceeds 25%. Therefore, the 72% MoU conversion rate achieved by the previous Industries Minister is nothing short of phenomenal.

Talking about 100% MoU conversion is absolutely impractical and can never happen.

Since she is handling the most critical ministry of the state, such statements create unnecessary discomfort.

I hope she does her homework before making such statements.

I sincerely wish she delivers on par with the previous Industries Minister.

#This is yet another dark day in India's history. A sitting judge of a constitutional court has delivered borderline hate speech, eerily resembling the rhetoric of fringe, extremist right-wing organisations in today's India. It is disturbingly similar to the hate speeches delivered by those like T. Raja and Yati Narsinghanand against Muslims and other minorities. These remarks reflect a shift from covert bias to overt declaration. It reminds one of the many petitions filed in the Supreme Court begging for action against such individuals.

Today, we have a judge, Justice Shekhar Yadav, who not just believes in, but also, sees no problem openly espousing hate. He declares that India will be run according to the "wishes" of the majority (Hindus). He states that "Only what benefits the welfare and happiness of the majority will be accepted."

One must see what is happening here. The judge effectively rejects the fundamental idea that India is a constitutional democracy, not a majoritarian rule. Democracy is not equivalent to majority rule. By his remarks, Justice Yadav dismisses the fact that minorities possess constitutional protections enshrined in a written Constitution that even a democratically elected Parliament CANNOT take back. India’s Bill of Rights is a fundamental law. Judges in India are theoretically insulated from partisan politics and are sworn to uphold these rights. In fact, the very foundation of India is on this very basis- an understanding of constitutional democracy. At its core, democracy itself is fundamentally concerned with treating all people as equals. Justice Yadav rejects these. He rejects the principle that democracy must safeguard against the tyranny of the majority.

One must ask: is such a judge, who swore an oath to protect the Constitution, fit to continue in office? Justice Yadav was appointed as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court in December 2019 and made permanent in March 2021. On what basis did the Collegium approve his candidature?

Justice Yadav's remarks are clearly driven by majoritarian thinking. He unabashedly states that anyone willing to lay down their life for this country is, by default, a Hindu. This implies he views Muslims and Christians as "originally" Hindus. He further warns that it is "expected" that minorities must not disrespect the culture of this country, its great personalities, or the God of this land. These comments weaponise culture as a tool for exclusion and division. It is one of the most alarming instances of our times. One's heart must weep.

It is also crucial to understand that judges like Justice Yadav do not speak in isolation. His remarks are part of a larger project of saffronisation of the judiciary. Such statements, if left unchecked, will continue to contribute to the normalisation of exclusionary thinking.

The manner in which certain High Court judges are now speaking—both in courtrooms and outside—reflects not an allegiance to the Constitution but to the ideology of a Hindu Rashtra. How can anyone expect justice in the courtroom of such a judge? Justice, in its truest form, must be blind to race, religion, and creed. When a judge aligns justice with majoritarian preferences, the concept itself becomes hollow. It instead becomes an instrument of power, eroding trust in one of the last bastions of our democracy.
