@SophiaWilson77 I think as AI develops, selective exposure will become more frequent and that people will be exposed to stories that have less diverse points of view. AI is likely to promote stories that one personally agrees with, regardless of the accuracy of information.

@ZTzanis I would try to introduce them to local news organizations that report on relevant issues that impact them directly. Showing them stories about other topics that they’re personally interested in would also engage them and make the news more interesting.

@_masonrouser I think Collier’s suggestion would lead to more partisanship, not solve the issue. Conservatives are not the only group still stereotyped heavily by the media, so the focus should be on improving the quality of journalism and interviewing more diverse sources.

@angelicaruser I trust news organizations the same amount that I did at the beginning, but this class has equipped me with better tools for analyzing a news article and the frames and biases present in it. I base my trust in a news org mostly off of their track record.

@aco26154 The social media paradox is when people get at least some news from a source, social media, that they think is inaccurate. Since news is everywhere on social media, we encounter it even when not seeking it out. This explains why many people get news from a source they distrust.

@smackbunnybaby Algorithms push a narrower range of news stories to the top of a person’s feed. Although this helps people find stories they’re interested in faster, it also prevents them from seeing the whole picture by blocking other perspectives or facts that don’t align with their opinions.

@RyanCerna2 The goal that most motivates me is learning. I want to be able to understand people of all cultures and learn how to see the world from various perspectives. I think that knowing more about important issues allows me to more critically engage in world culture and politics.
