@Chef_Blazil@Hezbolsonaro I’ve read all of them. It’s not completely hollow, don't mean to suggest that. But I’m not gonna pretend it’s the most thematically rich material out there.
@Hezbolsonaro The strawman would be that we have a generation or two of people raised more on video games than just about any other kind of media and so they are interested in other media through the lens of video games (and tabletop rags). Hence Ready Player One, and Carl
@Hezbolsonaro It’s a combination of powerscaling fantasies that came from anime/manga (I guess, not an expert here) and a kind of general gaming logic becoming mainstream. The litrpg format lets you explore gaming related narrative tropes in a way unlike a video game. That’s the steel man arg
@Hezbolsonaro It's pretty much that. The main character has a Level as well as DnD-style attributes (Strength, Charisma, etc) and they get a ton of DnD style magical items that boost those attributes, making them more and more powerful.
There's really no substance to DCC, but it's ok
@JoePostingg I gotta think, if we didn't MAD our selves to an apocalypse in the Cold War, I feel ok about not AI-ing ourselves into one either. But I also don't really believe in the singularity
