Investigating the mechanisms of retrovirus budding and maturation using a combination of biochemistry, cell biology, and cryo-EM starting at @EmoryMedicine soon
Mature #HIV-1 contains >2000 copies of “spacer peptide 2”, but we didn’t know why. We now see that SP2 binds the matrix protein and triggers the change into its mature arrangement. Summary video from @MargotRiggi :
https://t.co/9V54KQNuBp is the raw data of the "Defective HIV-1 capsid lattice assembled on 30-nm liposome scaffolds in the absence of assembly cofactor IP6". Published @PNASNews (https://t.co/wrA7sKUEZN) by the @BriggsGroup and @RobDickLab@MPI_Biochem and @Cornell. #EMPIAR
The companion paper from James Stacey and John Briggs is now online as well https://t.co/KgOqLO5FK2 Please also check out the excellent work by Randall Schirra, Barbie Ganser-Pornillos and Owen Pornillos https://t.co/HErCaI2cWU
We're so pleased to share Dr. Highland's #CryoEM work on HIV-1. @altos_labs is lucky to have recruited such a talented scientist. Wishing her the best.
Our latest paper describing our use of single particle #cryoEM to examine the HIV-1 capsid is out now in @PNAS! Here, we determined structures of continuous regions of the capsid lattice. (1/8)

Thrilled to be joining Emory U as an Assist Prof at the Center of ViroScience and Cure! Excited to contribute to such a world-class drug discovery/basic science group. Thank you for the warm welcome! 👍❄️🔬 🦠
Great news: Rob Dick @RobDickLab is making the big move from Cornell to Emory U, as an Assist Prof at our Center of ViroScience and Cure!!! He'll further strengthen a world class drug discovery/basic science group that recently also recruited @michailidis_lab from Rockefeller U👍
If you're applying to PhD programs in the life sciences check out my personal statement writing guide! Special shout-out to the faculty that contributed some great advice! #gradschool#PhD

The B-HIVE Center is up and running, building on 10 years of work of the HIVE Center! 31 labs working together to reveal the structure and function of HIV-1 and its interactions with cellular host factors. For more information, see https://t.co/dqkqitKHyC
@Guillawme If I'm understanding the question correctly, I believe this is normally handled by serialEM for us. Motioncorr on the fly and save as a stack for each tilt series. The command to do this with IMOD should look something like: newstack TS01_frame_0?.mrc TS01_stack.mrc.
A successful week at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Retroviruses conference! Two posters and two talks were presented by the Rob Dick Lab #CSHLRetro
Our very first print with our @ff3dprinters Guider IIs - Iron Throne Benchy! Next, we'll test the integrity of different filaments at cryogenic temperatures #3DBenchy
Our work on Rous sarcoma virus is now online @NatureComms. A continuation of the IP6 story with RSV structures! It was a joy to work with everyone. Special thanks to Florian Schur and Martin Obr @SchurLab. https://t.co/CvKS4FKzbA
