Automating the churning high volumes of good-old-code will be as passé as walking around with a discman. Digital music didn’t die, but CDs did.
Our unsophisticated AI tooling and workflows will have the same fate— be as transitional as CDs were.
Does learning assembly or low-level languages make you a better high-level programmer, or is it unnecessary today if you're sticking to high-level languages?
Folks using AI to automate that labor intensive but otherwise menial coding (most of the coding in the last decades) are enjoying a brief moment that ends with others using AI to finally fix underinvestment in abstractions & algebras…

@markburgess_osl@ironmoon44 As a software professional, I agree with you—I feel more humanity je ne sais quoi interacting with natural science folk, even in written form.
For example, the other day I picked up a book on the history of anti-gravity research and it was very hard to put it down.
@thdxr An industry w/ tailwinds & winner-takes-most dynamics optimized for code-churning over foundational work. AI changes the trade-offs, provides relief to building abstractions layers in that deficit and compounding returns to it; but still many are doubling-down on code-churning.

@neilcybart +1. An exaggeration I’ve used to make a related point:
Airbnb is to Hospitality as Facebook Marketplace is to Retail.
(Not that each doesn’t have a positive value proposition, but confusing the competitive landscape is to miss the where the PMF is)
