Can we get a discount in Europe for each feature not shipped in our area? We can't be paying the same full subscription than other countries and getting less, @sama@thsottiaux. It's not discrimination, we get that our regulations are trickier. But we're still paying for everything we're not getting.

Co se české děti učí o Izraeli?
Je jim dvanáct. O Blízkém východě toho zatím moc nevědí. Otevřou učebnici zeměpisu.
Izrael. Jordánsko. Libanon. Sýrie. Írán. Turecko. A Palestina.
Palestina tu stojí v jedné řadě se suverénními státy regionu, bez jediného slova o jejím specifickém a dodnes sporném státoprávním postavení.
Pak nastává problém: co do jejího zeměpisného profilu napsat?
U Izraele najdeme turistiku, zavlažování a moderní průmysl. Turecko má automobily, textil a turistiku. Írán kosmický program a perské koberce. Jeho islamistický režim, podpora teroristických organizací ani vojenské ambice zeměpis řešit nepotřebuje.
Politika začíná až u Izraele.
A s ní končí zeměpis a nastupuje historie.
V roce 1967 obsadil zbytek, Arabové byli vyhnáni, jejich stát nevznikl a Izrael dodnes odmítá splnit rezoluci OSN, „což vede k dalším konfliktům“.
Západní břeh Jordánsko a Gazu Egypt. Palestinský stát nevznikl ani během následujících devatenácti let.
V roce 1967 Izrael podle učebnice prostě „obsadil“ zbytek. Šestidenní válka se někam ztratila.
Stejně jako statisíce Židů, kteří opustili nebo byli nuceni opustit arabské a muslimské země.
Z komplikované historie zmizela rozhodnutí, války i odpovědnost arabské strany.
Zůstala židovská vina.
Občas promluví i detail.

Z ničeho nic mi zablokovali můj osobní Facebook, a tím i přístup k pracovní stránce Věřím ti.
The constant decel messaging in Europe is insufferable as an adult, but its effect on kids is worse. As a parent, it's your obligation to counterprogram this nonsense. Show them robots, rockets, and wonders of AI. Show them cathedrals and moon landings. Instill hope in progress.
.. a technik mi podává zpět technický průkaz. Odcházím s odmítnutím z důvodu, který v legislativě nemohu nikde najít! Budu se tedy ptát Ministerstva...
STK Pechy doposud nebyla ani jednou terčem mých zveřejňování masově praktikovaných podvodů při měření emisí. A teď mi odmítá udělat STK.
Já už bych nedokázala s ničím souhlasit víc a líp to napsat.
I have written eleven opinion pieces for The New York Times across 35 years. I still read it. I write what follows with no joy: while I have watched it become increasingly partisan in its news coverage over the decades, no topic has made its loss of balance clearer to me than its handling of Israel since October 7.
This week the Times published a sentence suggesting that Israeli victimhood over the 2023 Hamas terror attack was not a fact, but a "matter of perception." It only added an Editors' Note after furious backlash, much of it here on X. I have written corrections myself. A sentence like that doesn't slip past a reporter, an editor, and a copy desk by accident. The underlying problem is that it did not set off an alarm until readers outside the building made noise.
And that was simply the latest example. In May, the paper's Opinion section ran a column alleging Israeli forces used dogs to rape Palestinian detainees, built on sourcing no other serious outlet had corroborated. The Times's own executive editor later said the newsroom "wouldn't have done that exact piece."
Now there's data behind the pattern. A peer-reviewed Yale study of 1,559 Times articles on the war found the word "Israel" appeared more than three times as often as "Hamas," and that 1,423 of those articles mentioned neither Israeli casualties after Oct. 7 nor Hamas combatants killed in the war.
"Paper of record" was never a hereditary title. It was a claim about earned trust. I am not sure anyone still believes it.

A reminder that Ed Sheeran's crime here is not "having the wrong opinion". His crime is not expressing a view that he may, or may not, hold. What he actually believes is of secondary concern.
We're now into the world of compelled speech. Which ironically means that the next time you hear a musician bleating about Gaza, they may well be only doing it to save their own skin.
Actual conviction no longer matters: You just say the line.
More than 5,000 figures from entertainment, academia, politics, business, literature and public life have signed an open letter declaring that they reject the accusation that Israel committed genocide in Gaza.
Signatories include former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, historian Niall Ferguson, psychologist Steven Pinker, former U.S. antisemitism envoy Deborah Lipstadt, former Canadian justice minister Irwin Cotler, media executive Shari Redstone, actress Debra Messing, historian Simon Sebag Montefiore and military expert John Spencer.
The letter accuses Hamas of entering the war with genocidal intentions.
“For 48 days, an UNRWA teacher kept her trapped in his attic — in terrible conditions, with very little food. I ask the United Nations: How could you place the education of Gaza’s next generation with someone involved in holding an elderly woman hostage?”
Neta Heiman, the daughter of former hostage Ditza Heiman, spoke out about the horrifying conditions her mother, who was then 84, was subjected to by United Nations employees.
How can any organization be so heartless as to refuse accountability after a grandmother was held hostage by their employee?
The UN must take action and replace UNRWA. Otherwise, they do not stand for "human rights."

1) Německo přišlo do Čech, protože chtělo Čechy.
Muži ke zdi, ženy do lágru, děti do plynu a Říše to druhý den s hrdostí otiskla, aby to všichni viděli.
3) A ten váš „německý seriál z roku 1942 s prokreslenými Čechy" prozrazuje, kolik toho o protektorátu víte.
Well, this is not a surprise: A peer-reviewed study from the Yale School of Management of 1,559 @nytimes articles found that its Gaza war coverage emphasized Palestinian suffering while downplaying Israeli losses and Hamas’ role in prolonging the conflict. https://t.co/zZ0exTVumD
@xpasky Well, unless you watched Black Mirror ... https://t.co/q6JxddN67t . Or spent too much thinking about the two copies of Peer thinking about who goes into which universe ... :)
BREAKING: OpenAI might have stolen another major proof.
In a detailed Mastodon post, which I report in full in the comments, Andreas Thom presents several pieces of evidence suggesting that OpenAI may have trained Astra on conversations in which he and Gábor Kun were working on Gromov’s soficity conjecture, one of the ten problems OpenAI later announced Astra had solved.
I know Andreas. We met several times early in our careers. He is an exceptional mathematician, a leading expert on sofic and hyperlinear groups, and one of the most respected scholars in the field. He has spent two decades working on this problem.
If his account is correct, this is not a minor dispute over attribution. It would mean that unpublished human work was absorbed into a model and then presented to the world as a breakthrough by the model itself.
And if the allegations raised by Levent Alpöge, Tristan Buckmaster, and now Andreas Thom are all substantiated, we are no longer looking at isolated incidents.
We may be looking at one of the greatest intellectual scandals in the history of science.
AI is not discovering new mathematics.
AI is stealing human discovery.
