@michaelxpettis If the size of the financial sector has been a primary cause of the unproductive allocation of capital, won’t financial repression/YCC (as seems inevitable) address that problem over time anyway?
@twobitidiot There are legitimate reasons for not wanting a GSIB to acquire SVB. The focus should/will be on actions which more broadly shore up confidence in the smaller banks
@profplum99 You’re the first analyst/commentator to note that once management moved the securities to HTM, hedging was no longer an option. This is critical info that so many missed
@ProfessorStam Modern bank runs happen ridiculously fast. New (AI) monitoring mechanisms might be required to identify runs much earlier triggering throttling/pausing of withdrawals to protect depositor bases.
@JoshRosner@AP_Abacus@jerallaire@circle Fair. It did seem odd to claim that initiated but unprocessed wires would be honoured in priority over general depositors
@jillgun Yes. I think the problem for FTX international clients here is Bahamian regulators will let FTX continue trading until Bahamians get their funds out, and only then decide FTX is insolvent. They’ll force FTX into administration. Lots of fees for Bahamian accountants/lawyers
