Warning: it's way too easy to turn a nice, 'well-aligned' AI into an evil, sadistic, psychopathic AI that wants to inflict maximum suffering on humans.
There is no 'alignment' of Artificial Intelligence that can be 100% secured against the many bad actors who would want the AI to behave very badly.
I can’t help but notice how this exposes AI as so incredibly incompatible with mankind. We cannot exist in the same world.
Yes, all these “vulnerabilities” exist in our software and code. But the many limitations that exist in the human condition - from morals to intent to resources - keep us from exploiting everything we see.
We don’t just tear it all down. We actually want to keep it up and so we accept the weaknesses and live with them.
AI doesn’t give a 💩 about humanity, and neither do its creators. They would burn it all down (exploit every vulnerability) simply to make a point that they made something bigger.
What if Anthropic just...stopped? Unilaterally? Right now?
I talked to @DKokotajlo@_NathanCalvin@geoffreyirving about why it's time to stop framing AI as a prisoner's dilemma and just do the right thing.
I hope a lot of people inside and outside Anthropic read this

We have a new supporter in Canada’s Senate! Senator Éric Forest has backed our call for an international ban on the development of runaway machine intelligence.
30+ Canadian MPs and Senators now recognize the risk of human extinction it poses.
Anthropic is saying that AI models could pose catastrophic or existential risks to humanity.
At the same time, Anthropic is planning the largest IPO in history, which would accelerate the development of this technology while leaving Americans holding the bag if the AI bubble bursts.
I wrote to CEO Dario Amodei asking for real answers about the risks before they try and go public.
When did we decide that convenience was worth more than freedom? Why do we accept a world where some tech billionaires gain control over our lives while we surrender, one by one, the very rights that generations fought to secure?
Ex-OpenAI researcher: "i'm hearing [the hackers] achieved full administrator access to slack (see every message) where literally every single research secret is contained"
Generally I don't think people have fully processed how incredibly & deeply evil the people that deliberately planned the destruction of a millions of year old biosphere actually & factually are.
@jmackin2 Don't you think there could be something -- in particulart bad outcomes -- between "AI kills all of humanity" and AI being "supremely useful"?
I'm just glad I don't live in a dictatorship but a free democracy where every few years I can vote for a different banker or lawyer or landlord that represents the vast network of powerful corporate interests that controls every aspect of my life from cradle to grave
Imagine working 40 to 60 hours a week and still worrying about money. People are exhausted, missing time with their families, and sacrificing their health just to survive. At what point does hard work actually start paying off?
We're living in an economy where a guy with a master's degree is delivering groceries to a 22-year-old who made $4 million filming himself screaming at video games. And we're still telling kids to study hard.
if you work on this kinda shit you probably should be ostracised from society and maybe imprisoned or worse ngl this is absolute traitor-to-the-human-species shit
Sorry I’ve been distant n really sad lately. I’m dealing w/ the crushing existential dread of living on a beautiful planet bursting w/ life, only to watch the dumbest motherfckers alive destroy it while chasing as much money as they can hoard.
The CEOs of the major AI companies believe that the technology could kill us all or lead to societal collapse.
We don't have to pursue this technology. It's a choice.
