אחת הסיבות שדמוקרטיות נוטות לנצח מלחמות היא שמפקדי הצבא מסוגלים להגיד את האמת לדרג המדיני, להתריע על כשלים ולקבל הזדמנות לתקן אותם. בדיקטטורות, הצורך להעמיד פנים שהכל מצוין מביא לטאטוא האמת מתחת לשטיח, והביצועים הצבאיים בהתאם.

A nuanced analysis and thoughts on what I see from Gazans posting on social media in the past 18 months.

Since the war began, I have been following accounts that document real life in Gaza, as GAZANS themselves are posting on social media in Arabic, and not international accounts written in English that speak to the world.

@GAZAWOOD1, @imshin, and others present a VERY DIFFERENT reality from what mainstream media shows us.
I’m not talking about 1–2–10–20 accounts, I’m talking about thousands and thousands.

I started following some Gazan accounts myself.

These accounts posted tons of markets, food stalls, restaurants, and desserts throughout the war, including during the time when they campaigned alongside @UN agencies about starvation. And we now see that their data is completely distorted, based on half-truths at best. You can read more at @MarkZlochin.

We also see how the very few images of children in horrific physical condition were either due to genetic disease or not even from Gaza.

I’ll personally add that it is very relieving to see full markets and restaurants in Gaza, and I’m happy about that.

What I gather from the thousands of videos I watch coming out of Gaza on a weekly basis is nuanced:

1.This is war, nothing more and nothing less. War is bad and ugly. I highly recommend that Palestinians not start wars they can’t afford to lose.

2.I’m not dismissing any suffering. Hamas-ISIS has taken the Palestinians hostage (even though they elected Hamas) and uses them as human shields.

3.I wish every innocent person who didn’t take part in raping, slaughtering, looting, kidnapping, or holding hostages well.

4. I think Egypt must open its border with Gaza, and their choice not to, says a lot.

5.The only people starving in Gaza are the hostages.

The entire international community must put all pressure on Hamas to release them in order to end this war.
