Ever want to replace tin-man catalysts in radical-mediated processes? Let our (@roizengroup) recently published @angew_chem review shine light on recent advances in photosensitized/photocatalysed Giese reactions. https://t.co/o2r8nLrLGs
“Ten years ago I was kicked out and forced to retire.”
Our new medicine laureate Katalin Karikó (@kkariko) told us how much it means to be awarded the Nobel Prize after a scientific career that has been full of challenges.
Ten years ago, Karikó was still doing all her experiments by hand but today she has been awarded the medicine prize for her research on mRNA, which led to the development of COVID-19 vaccines.
Listen now:
Charlie - thanks for including me in the early stages and driving (with the students) this Chem Ed research (organic) while teaching/training all of your co-authors (myself included).
Analysis of Resources Applied to Rationalize Elimination Mechanisms - now published in Chemistry Education Research and Practice https://t.co/rW6PMknF18
Our paper is published. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
I am so grateful for time spent with @j_a_byers … he made so many spaces more welcoming and entertaining and was a generous teacher, colleague and friend. He has done so much good. I am really sad that he is no longer with us.
@Shenvi_Lab 's finest article to date, no Bottcher score needed. Jokes aside, it's very sincere, poignant, informative and inspirational!

I’m incredibly honored to be hooded by @hargrovelab this past weekend. The accomplishments and the career I have would have been difficult to attain without your and @roizengroup’s mentorship and immense support. So from bottom of my heart, thank you.
It’s a privilege to be a member of the Int. Adv. Board of ACIE, where I am proud to have published some of my best research, meaningful scientific art, and a well-researched review. ACIE - thanks for helping to launch every stage of my career.
@ahbailey04 Basically, depending on the challenge, a lot of time was invested to support individualized development (in a supportive way) so we could either arrive at a place where needs were understood/met or where the lab member was able to think about whether this lab was a good fit.
@ahbailey04 That said, issues in this space can arise when expectations are agreed upon. For example, a lot of people seem to be “deadline” motivated, so there were a lot of one-on-one discussions trying to support development of skills to use a timeline with earlier spaced out deadlines.
It is a true pleasure to see @thestoltzgroup and @brianstoltz70 publishing a completed total synthesis of ineleganolide. Were the 6.5 years I spent in pursuit of this molecule “the intellectual experience of a lifetime”? Who knows. They were a privilege. Thanks for the memories!
Incredibly excited to unleash this paper onto the community! Huge congrats to Ben Gross for bringing this home! @thestoltzgroup #proudadvisor#23yeareffort @CaltechCCE A Convergent Total Synthesis of (+)-Ineleganolide | JACS https://t.co/H3vRehBt2c
Most rxns in this paper were run in 2 mo while shutting down our lab. I am grateful to the people who advanced this rsch & for the chance to have done it. Directed Photochemically Mediated Nickel-Catalyzed (Hetero)arylation of Aliphatic C–H Bonds https://t.co/gWsYyHnv0b
