Impact of #COVID19 on cancer care and management of other diseases has been profound. It's a good day to remind us of other health emergencies: #WorldCancerDay#worldcancerday2021
@jonestaustin@ASTMHTrainees@ASTMH I find the terminology a bit confusing. Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a genetic condition. Recently, I read this term more often in the context of infections (without underlying genetic disorder). Same term used for two different diseases? Or am I missing something here?
If you weren't able to make it to Portugal for my talk this morning (or even if you were!), make sure to have a look at the latest 2018 #Enterovirus D68 samples just added to @nextstrain at https://t.co/a6Sw1XUf2z #EVD68

Getting more requests to review manuscripts on #RSV surveillance from #LMIC. Encouraging if representing overall trend. Besides strengthening LMIC #PublicHealth science, such data on virus circulation & risk factors enable recommendations for global RSV #immunisation programmes.
JCV: Continued enterovirus D68 circulation in CO in a seasonal biennial pattern temporally correlating with national acute flaccid myelitis spikes Aug-Oct 2014, 2016, 2018. No #EVD68 detections 2015, 2017 with sporadic #AFM cases at background rates. https://t.co/8LzrgvgS2J
First 2018 data published on #AcuteFlaccidMyelitis & #enterovirus for a European country. UK observed 9 cases of #AFM with detection of #EVD68. Investigations were carried out with emphasis on respiratory & stool samples! Way to go! https://t.co/BCFgK5Gbm5
#GlobalHealth security, disease x and how to bring different sectors together were only a few among the the topics at #Davos2019.
@GaviSeth is summarising his week:

@AndrewALover @EckerleIsabella @greg_folkers For me, there is convincing evidence #EVD68 can cause #AFM - in rare circumstances. We reviewed evidence by applying Bratford Hill critera for causation. (also: Dyda et al/Messacar @kmess44 et al). Recent studies continue to fit with critera https://t.co/EMMq6nuTNe. Other views?
Now 200+ patients with #acuteflaccidmyelitis#AFM in US. Good being cautious but evidence is overwhelming #EVD68 is a cause. Need to adapt #enterovirus surveillance. Clinical case definitions are critical to trigger early investigations. Thanks @Greg_Folkers for sharing our paper

#RSV affects a large number of infants every year. In a European city with 9,000 births annualy, we estimated monthly incidence rates for severe infections are as high as 49.6 per 1,000 births. Targted intervention & MI can protect children https://t.co/hx6zd8VKu7 #VaccinesWork
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes severe respiratory infections in young infants. #RSV vaccines are in development and maternal immunisation (MI) might be the solution.
