Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif's Message on International Day of UN Peacekeepers, 29 May 2026.

Today, Pakistan joins the international community in paying rich tribute to the brave men and women serving under the United Nations flag on the occasion of the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.

Observed annually across the world, this day recognizes the invaluable services and sacrifices rendered by military, police, and civilian peacekeepers deployed in conflict-affected regions in pursuit of global peace and security.

This year’s observance is being commemorated under the theme, “Invest in Peace”, which underscores the critical importance of sustained political commitment and financial support for the promotion of durable peace and the protection of human lives worldwide.

The day also commemorates the establishment of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO), the first-ever UN peacekeeping mission, which commenced operations in Palestine in 1948.

Over the course of peacekeeping history, more than two million men and women have served in over seventy UN peace missions around the world. Pakistan remains among the longest-serving and leading contributors to United Nations peacekeeping operations. Through their dedicated service, troop-contributing countries continue to play a vital role in the maintenance of international peace and security, reflecting our collective commitment to peace as a shared global priority.

Since 1960, Pakistan has contributed more than 235,000 personnel to over 48 UN peacekeeping missions, including more than 500 women peacekeepers. It is a matter of immense national pride that Pakistan today stands as the fifth-largest contributor to United Nations peacekeeping operations.

The courageous peacekeepers serving across the globe have made extraordinary sacrifices in the service of humanity and global stability. The unwavering dedication of UN peacekeepers to peace is exemplified by the ultimate sacrifice made by more than 4,400 personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty, including over 181 Pakistani peacekeepers.

Pakistan takes immense pride in its martyrs and in all those brave sons and daughters who continue to serve with exceptional professionalism, commitment, and resolve in promoting peace, stability, and the protection of vulnerable communities across different regions of the world.

Pakistan reiterates its steadfast commitment to further strengthening global peace efforts through active participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions. Our continued contribution reflects Pakistan’s enduring commitment to international peace and security, as well as to the principles of multilateralism.

28 مئی کا دن پاکستان کے ناقابلِ تسخیر دفاع کے آغاز کا مظہر ہے۔ ملکی سلامتی کو یقینی بنانے کے لیے جہاں بیرونی خطرات کا سدِباب کیا گیا وہاں داخلی سطح پر نیشنل ایکشن پلان کے ذریعے دہشت گردی کے خلاف سخت اور واضح اقدامات اٹھائے گئے تاکہ ملکی بقا کو ہمیشہ کے لیے محفوظ بنایا جا سکے۔

وزیراعلی پنجاب مریم نواز کے "میگنیفیسنٹ پنجاب" ویژن کے تحت صوبے بھر میں سیاحت کے فروغ کے لیے 78 بلین روپے کی خطیر رقم سے ایک جامع ایکو سسٹم تیار کیا جا رہا ہے، جس میں صرف محکمہ سیاحت کے 28 بلین روپے کے علاوہ وائلڈ لائف، فاریسٹ، ایکو ٹورازم اور مری و ٹیکسلا جیسے تاریخی شہروں کی بحالی کے منصوبے شامل ہیں۔
اس انقلابی اقدام کا مقصد سیاحت کو محض تفریح تک محدود رکھنے کے بجائے اگلے تین سالوں میں اسے ایک مضبوط اکنامک ڈرائیور بنانا ہے، جس کے لیے ہسٹورک، آرکیولوجیکل، ریلیجس اور ایکو ٹورازم کے گرد یادگار "ایکسپیریئن شل ٹورازم" (Experiential Tourism) اور ٹورسٹ ٹریلز متعارف کرائی جا رہی ہیں۔
عوام سے گزارش ہے کہ پنجاب کے تمام سیاحتی مقامات کا ورچوئل تجربہ کرنے کے لیے "Magnificent Punjab" ایپ ڈاؤن لوڈ کریں اور جدید انفراسٹرکچر و ہاسپیٹلٹی کے ساتھ ابھرتے ہوئے اس نئے سیاحتی دور کا حصہ بنیں۔

Islamabad : 28 April, 2026.

A delegation of senior officials of the European Union and business representatives from prominent European companies, called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister House this morning.

The delegation was led by Mr. Peteris Ustubs, Director (Asia Pacific) of the European Commission’s Directorate General of International Partnerships, and comprised Ms. Thourya Triki of the EU Investment Bank and senior executives of top European companies including Manuel Pauser Vice President, Adidas, Vice President of Andritz, Karl Shloegelbauer and Regional Director of IKEA, Dieter Metkke. The delegation is visiting Pakistan to attend the EU-Pakistan Business Forum. The Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan H.E. Raimundas Karoblis was also present in the meeting.

The Prime Minister welcomed the EU delegation to Pakistan and thanked them for their participation in the EU-Pakistan Business Forum. He said the EU was Pakistan’s largest trading partner and the destination for the highest volume of exports from Pakistan.

While appreciating the convening of the EU-Pakistan Business Forum, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that the event would encourage further enhancement of trade and investment ties between Pakistan and the EU. He assured the EU delegation that the Government would continue making serious efforts to facilitate the growth of trade and investment relations with EU.

He assured the EU delegation of the Government of Pakistan’s firm resolve to continue working towards the stabilization of the economy, despite regional challenges, including the recent spike in oil prices due to the situation in the Middle East. In this regard, the Prime Minister particularly recalled his two recent telephone conversations with EU Council President H.E. Antonio Costa, where they discussed in detail, the regional security situation as well as ways to further strengthen Pakistan-EU relations.

While appreciating the Prime Minister’s leading role in peace efforts in the region, the EU delegation expressed deep appreciation to the Government for extending full cooperation in hosting the EU-Pakistan Business Forum. The delegation members spoke about their respective experience of investments in Pakistan and stated that there was enormous potential for further growth of these B2B ties between the EU and Pakistan in various sectors, including energy, communications, IT, etc. More than 600 B2B meetings are expected on the sidelines of the EU-Pakistan Business Forum.

From Pakistan side, Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for Law, Justice & Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar, Advisor to the PM Dr. Tauqir Shah, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, SAPMs Syed Tariq Fatemi and Haroon Akhtar Khan as well as senior government officials were also present in the meeting.

Had the pleasure of receiving a telephone call from Rt Hon Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, this afternoon.

Our warm and productive conversation focused on Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach to promote peace and de-escalation in the Middle East.

Grateful for Prime Minister Luxon’s appreciation and support for Pakistan’s sincere peace efforts.

We also discussed ways to further strengthen Pakistan–New Zealand relations and acknowledged the valuable contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in New Zealand.

Our discussions covered the full spectrum of Pakistan–Indonesia relations, with a shared resolve to elevate our partnership in trade, investment, defence, education, health and technology.

We agreed to work together to unlock new opportunities in agriculture, IT, defence, halal products, and skills development.

I also valued our candid exchange on regional issues, including Kashmir and Gaza, and appreciated President Prabowo’s strong humanitarian leadership for the people of Gaza.
