Ethiopia 🇪🇹 has opened its first National Precious Metals Refinery at the Bole Lemi Special Economic Zone near Addis Ababa.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed launched the facility, a joint venture between Ethiopian Investment Holdings and Sam Precious Metals.
With the capacity to process over 600 tonnes of gold and other metals annually, the refinery will allow Ethiopia to refine gold locally instead of exporting raw gold, mainly to Dubai.
It also aims to serve neighboring countries and support local jewelry production.

📌 Moroto | Water Scarcity, Human Struggles.
↪️ In Nakidongo Village, Lotislei Parish, Lotisan Sub-county, Moroto District, communities are facing a growing water crisis following a prolonged dry spell.
Water sources have dwindled, leaving families and their livestock with very limited options. Even the few remaining sources, some with visibly poor-quality water, are heavily congested as people scramble to collect what little water is available. Long queues have become a daily reality, with women, children and other community members waiting for hours to secure water for their households and animals.
The scarcity is placing immense pressure on already vulnerable families. As people travel farther and wait longer for water, the risks of dehydration, poor hygiene and waterborne diseases increase. Livestock, on which many households depend for food, income and livelihoods, are also struggling to access sufficient water and pasture.
What may appear to be a shortage of water is, for these communities, a daily humanitarian struggle; affecting health, dignity, livelihoods and the survival of both people and animals.

Gossip is Murder.
It may not kill the body, but it can kill a reputation, destroy relationships, divide families, and wound a soul.

Deeply saddened by the death of Ismael Mulindwa, an ambulance driver with the @UgandaRedCross. Ismael was supporting the Ebola response in Aru, Ituri Province, DRC, when he was seriously injured in an attack while carrying out his humanitarian duties on 17 August 2026. Despite specialised care and early signs of recovery, he sadly passed away on 1 October.
My heartfelt condolences to Ismael's family, his loved ones, and our colleagues at the Uganda Red Cross Society. We stand with you.
Ismael’s death is a tragic reminder of the risks faced by humanitarian workers and volunteers engaged in the fight against epidemics and emergencies.
How Kinshasa is able to do all these things amidst "war" while Kampala is issuing promising statements amidst "peace" is something we need to ponder over.
