In 1984 new speak was designed to limit thought, if you cannot say it you cannot think it. LLMs may have taken the place of new speak. If the AI cannot or will not say it neither can the person think it. Critical thought may be doomed if people develop this dependency.

The UK government announced new measures to protect girls from violence, and steer boys from misogyny.

Maybe they didn't see the survey in 2024 of 10,000 children age 13-17, finding more boys are victims of IPV.

One of my biggest frustrations with progressivism and identity politics, is how it makes good, kind, thoughtful people, such as Jimmy, say harmful things.

To be clear, the latest UK data, taken from a 2024 survey of 10,000+ pupils (aged 13-17), found 41% of girls and 57% of boys 'experienced violent or controlling behaviour from a partner'.

Even more recent than that, last month the ONS published their latest domestic and intimate partner violence data too; and it found the same.

That not only are boys aged 16-19 the most at risk group of males to abuse, but they are more at risk than girls of the same age.

It found –

20.3% of boys and 15.7% of girls aged 16-19 experienced domestic abuse, and 11.5% of boys and 8.3% of girls aged 16-19 experienced intimate partner abuse.

So with that in mind, there is nothing 'good' about excluding boys, who are arguably even more at risk, from life saving support.

There is nothing 'good' about exclusionary, antiquated, and unwelcome ideas around gender; that incorrectly assumes one half of society is the problem, and the other half, the victim.

Such ideas only alienate boys and young men, leaving them vulnerable, and ostracising them from otherwise important leftist discourse.

That is not 'good'.

It is antiquated ideological tunnel vision, masquerading as progressivism, whose proponents then go onto scratch their heads as to why so few men and boys vote left.

Challenging gender norms means challenging the ones you hold too; and yes, the male perpetrator / female victim paradigm, is one of the most pervasive, and harmful gender norms we have.

Treat the issue, not the gender.

Leave no victim behind.

That is real progressivism, and that is truly "good".

@TheTinMenBlog This interpretation of mental health support could further discourage men from engaging. It's not all about just talking it out. For example there is legislation that allows secondary mental health services to pause all debt interest and contact from debtors during a MH crisis.

@TheTinMenBlog There is nothing wrong with saying everyone benifits. It shouldn't be exclusively used for the reasons you give but might need to be used with a target audience that hold alot of influence that won't otherwise engage. Some people (not just women) are entirely self interested.

@LisaBritton I might be mistaken but the reason women are more likely to have autoimmune diseases is because the XX chromosomes contains two set of the immune response genes which makes it more likely that one of them goes wrong. This is the same reason women weather illness better than men.
