Re: the continued demolition of Guildford Crescent.
It’s no surprise to us that the landlords of the once loved Guildford Crescent have gone against their original word (which was already skewed) and have demolished the remaining facade of the 160+ year old buildings that once stood there.
From the moment in November 2018 that the beloved local independent businesses were handed very short notices to vacate, with over 100 jobs lost as a result just months later in January 2019…
….This guide felt that the buildings nor businesses were of real concern to the landlord and it was an issue that we amongst many others and 20,000 signatories vehemently campaigned against.
The most insulting thing however, is that this facade has been left to perish as a staunch reminder for us all, almost 5 years on…of what was once there…now to only be demolished in seconds.
These 3 independent businesses could have been given a chance pre-pandemic to keep jobs secure and culture blossoming
Who’s to say if @GwdihwCafeBar or Thai House wouldn’t have made it the other side of the pandemic? They never even had the chance to find out.
We look forward to seeing what dialogue @cardiffcouncil formally issues on this matter and any fines that are imposed as time progresses…and welcome any response to this post.
At its core though, this, unfortunately, however, was a grassroots music venue that our “music city” and local authority failed to protect.
More must be done to protect grassroots music venues.
We welcome your views and memories of and on Guildford Crescent below ⬇️
But, I & we now as a CIC, will never forget what happened here. Not ever. 💔
Don’t want to give this piece any traction but, my lord, what a cruel take. Having worked in a cinema, I’ve seen firsthand how vital an escape going to the movies is to those socially isolated. I had people tell me at the ticket booth I was the 1st person they spoke to in weeks +
