It's been five years since I began writing ITSOAS, and today I'm finally able to share it with the world. ๐ค๏ธ
In The Shadow of A Sunbeam is a pro-life contemporary Christian novel about heavy topics like divorce, abuse, and hope in the darkest shadow.

@Shannon_MMcD Ooh, that would be interesting! I love Professor Bhaer so much, so I love the ending as is. But I think that Alcott could have written an equally impactful and satisfying story with a non-romantic ending.
The sisters who dressed in brash colours? Theyโd survived a work camp in Hungary, and vowed to never wear grey again. The gentleman who was always half asleep? Heโd spent his golden years on the sea, and could speak a handful of languages.
People underrate the importance of the moralizing in Little Women. Mrs. March's encouragement to 'play Pilgrim's Progress' - and the 'bundles' that the sisters carry - are a connective tissue through many different episodes & give significance to the story as a whole.
When the other person hesitates to shoot....
Being in Tolliver's head is fantastic. I never know what she's going to do or say next. And sometimes I get commentary like this.

I just signed up and started writing today. And uh... I'm immediately having big epiphanies about behind the scene things that happened in ITSOAS. The motivations behind why certain side characters acted the way they did are blowing my mind.
Thinking about this from Little Women:
"The parents who had taught one child to meet death without fear, were trying now to teach another to accept life without despondency or distrust, and to use its beautiful opportunities with gratitude and power."
If youโre looking for Christian fiction that breaks the mold, this book is excellent! Itโs about OCD and exposure therapy, as well as navigating life as an ex-convict.
Don't surrender the tools of good prose to AI!
Of course AI will use em dashes, rule of 3, metaphors, etc. It's ingested the work of good writers! But if you let the fear of being accused of AI force you to give up more & more, there won't be much left
Write as only a human can
In fiction evil is often written to have depth and complexity while good is written to be simple and boring. But in real life evil is boring and predictable while good is complex and unique every single time.
You have an incredible power, writer! Your words, your stories can change how someone views the world, themselves, and their role in it. Never doubt your power. Always wield it wisely.
