Chief Fire Prevention Officer Schell visits Newmarket Home Hardware 🚒
The frequency of fires that start in the garage is rising.
These fires can spread quickly and breach into the home without you knowing -
Fortunately, Canadians now have access to residential Heat Alarms.
For added protection, install a heat alarm in your garage.
These alarms are best suited for areas where dust or fumes are commonly present, like your garage or attic space.
Visit your local hardware store and ask customer service whether these are in stock or require a special-order.

Newmarket Home Hardware is making it easier for everybody to access Heat Alarms. They have chosen to be the first store in Ontario to stock them on their shelves! Heat alarms are designed to protect your family from garage fires!

Since midnight, we’ve responded to 3 carbon monoxide calls in homes due to high winds blowing snow and blocking exterior vents. One home recorded carbon monoxide readings of over 200 parts per million (PPM).
Please check your vents and clear snow if needed.

Home fire sprinklers activate early to control fire growth until firefighters arrive. This support can reduce damage and protect responding crews. Education helps communities understand how sprinklers and fire service work together to protect homes.

Today we were proud to present John Gignac of the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation with a donation of $1,470.
This donation was possible by our generous residents who participated in our Fundraiser Dunk Tank at our Annual Open House.
The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation focuses their efforts on educating communities across Ontario on the dangers of Carbon Monoxide.
Thank you to our residents for their generosity!

CONGRATULATIONS to Captain Paul Horton on his retirement.
Captain Horton has served his community with passion, kindness, and empathy from November 17, 1997 to his official retirement date of December 31, 2025.
In addition to the community benefiting from his contributions, so have we.
Captain Horton has worked tirelessly for us on our Union Executive. Whenever our members needed support, guidance, or comfort- we knew we could call Paul.
He has impacted many lives in so many ways, we are all so grateful to have worked with him.
Carrying on his legacy after he retires, is his son, (soon to be appointed an Acting Captain) Robert Horton here at CYFS.
Thank you to Paul and the Horton family for sharing him with us for so long.
We wish him all the fun and relaxation that retirement can bring!
🚨Check out this video providing a peek into the lives of the Agnoletto family who have experienced the life saving benefit of a HEAT ALARM.🚨
Without the added protection of this specialized device, their experience would have been much different.
This small investment made a huge impact.
Tune into CTV News tonight at 6pm to learn more about these devices from our Chief Fire
Prevention Officer (Ryan Schell), Ottawa Assistant Division Chief of Fire Investigations (Jimmy D. Fata), and Fire Chief of Russell Township (Brian McBain).
