I just published a manifesto for all the developers out there who use an AI coding tool, but feel like they're not shipping much faster
I wrote 10 principles for changing how you build software with AI, based on what I've seen work for teams across Amazon

The 2024 TokyoDev Survey results are live! Key insights:
- Minimal job market shifts since 2023
- Hybrid work rising, fully remote shrinking
- Office workers 4x likelier to job hunt than remote ones
- Women still earn less, even considering experience

A lot of senior engineers are going to find themselves coerced into becoming team leads with management responsibilities, just to provide relief for managers with too many direct reports.
My suggestion is to be open to trying it. But confirm with your manager that you can go back to IC work if it doesnât work out, without negative repercussions.
It will give you perspective, insight into decision making, and most importantly, much needed support for more junior folks on your team.
Really excited to share with customers Amazon Qâa new type of generative AI-powered assistant that is specifically for work and can be tailored to your business.
Amazon Q can help you get fast, relevant answers to pressing questions, solve problems, generate content, and take actions using the data and expertise found in your companyâs information repositories, code, and enterprise systems. When you chat with Amazon Q, it provides immediate, relevant information and advice to help streamline tasks, speed up decision-making, and help spark creativity and innovation at work. Amazon Q is both your expert for building on AWS, and for analyzing your business.
Weâve built it to be secure and private, and it can understand and respect your existing identities, roles, and permissions and use this information to personalize its interactions. If a user doesnât have permission to access certain data without Amazon Q, they canât access it using Amazon Q either. And, from day one, weâve designed Amazon Q to meet stringent enterprise customersâ requirementsânone of their content is used to improve the underlying models. https://t.co/k99DMRIrQ8
For #PrimeDay this year, Amazon Aurora processed 318 billion transactions, stored 2,140 terabytes of data, and transferred 836 terabytes of data, while DynamoDB handled trillions of calls and peaked at 126 million requests per second.
Always fascinating to see these mind-boggling numbers from @jeffbarr on how @awscloud powered this yearâs record-breaking Prime Day. You all did a lot of shoppingð!ð

#BREAKING: Memorial growing in front of 4th Ave and Lenora St. for Asian American victims of Tuesdayâs shooting in Belltown.
Authorities say 34 year old Eina Kwon was shot multiple times and passed away at the hospital. She was 32 weeks pregnant. The baby did survive for a period of time but also died. Her husband, 37 year Sung Kwon was also shot but is expected to recover. They were both sitting in their Tesla during this incident. The couple had no prior interaction with shooter before this incident. This appears to be random.
Police say 30 year old Cordell Maurice Goosby is the shooter. He waived his right to appear in court today for his first appearance. Court docs say Goosby admitted to officers, âI did it, I did it.â
As for a motive, Goosby told police he thought he saw a hand gun in the vehicle and fired multiple shots through the window. No gun was in the car. He also told officers he has a history of âmental health care.â The gun he allegedly used to shoot the couple was found underneath another vehicle. It is a Smith & Wesson model M&P Shield 9mm. Goosby is a convicted felon for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon in Illinois.
A judge found probably cause and Goosby will remain behind bars until the King County Prosecuting Attorneyâs Office likely charges him for Murder in the First Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the Second Degree.
The Kwons also own a well popular restaurant near Pike Place Market called Aburiya Bento House, just a few blocks from the shooting. It is closed today. But several neighbors and biz owners say they are devastated. Iâm working on another update. #Seattle @MayorofSeattle@GovInslee@kcexec@CMAndrewJLewis @CMSaraNelson @CMTMosqueda@SeattleCouncil@SeattlePD@downtownseattle@SeattleChamber@VisitSeattle@friendsWFS
In this case study, learn how and why @zozojp (one of Japanâs leading e-commerce sites) migrated to Amazon DynamoDB from their existing and underperforming RDBMS. In addition, DynamoDB helped ZOZO reduce their engineering overhead by 85.8 percent. https://t.co/779jRRhnXI

What they are doing is MUCH more effective!
Hereâs how it worksððœððœððœ
We've all heard about (and rolled our eyes at) the out-of-touch software engineering manager:
"Can we deliver faster by adding more people?"
"I want to see more PR activity."
But here's an interesting study on the definitions of productivity from managers and developers:
