@brady_h I’ve largely quit using HR in training and just go by feel, but for novices pace and time doesn’t help understand the impact of weather and elevation when racing. If it’s hot and humid or very hilly or a trail race, HR on the watch helps gauge effort when pace isn’t reliable.
@runcamille@thesummitridge@brady_h My runs almost always have a distance and pace target to ensure I’m getting the desired physiological stimulus. If I planned to do 15mi in 90min but it took 1:44 in reality, that would bother me because I didn't get the intended training benefit.
@RunnerBeck@brady_h You actually have to stop a lot in ultra running for water and food and such. Maybe a counterintuitive reason why cumulative pace is so important to me. That stuff adds up in an ultra and so you train to be efficient in your stops.
@RunnerBeck@brady_h Not having to stop on runs was a non-trivial part of the decision when it came to purchasing my home. This is a hill I will die on.
@brady_h That’s fine, but running 9mi in 60min is not the same as running 9mi in 65 minutes physiologically. Average pace matters. Stopping the watch just conceals actual effort of the workout. @RunnerBeck
@brady_h@tomas It doesn’t mess up your average pace. It reflects true average pace and heart rate recovery for the run you actually did, not the one you wish you did.
@brady_h I like to race in half tights but they are a little pretentious for geriatric millennials to be wearing on work lunch runs. I have 4 pairs of Brooks Sherpa 5” so I guess that’s my favorite but the liner isn’t great. Just ordered a pair of Patagonia striders on sale from REI. TBD
@brady_h It looks big and slow I know but it is a really good shoe. The energy return of the zoom x foam is incredible but in a package you can get 500mi out of. Better outsole grip than most for city trails. Only complaint is the upper, while plush, is snug and warm in the summer.
@brady_h I’m just suggesting alternatives that I like and you may not have considered. The Vomero is lighter and cheaper than the Invincible so I’m not sure what’s too much about it
