The next interface between the digital world and nature is being built now.
As machines become more autonomous, they will need to understand the natural world they operate within.
Not as scenery.
Not as obstacles.
As context.
That missing layer is Nature Intelligence.
Movement isn’t just something the body spends energy doing. The forces generated by movement may be one of the inputs the body uses to decide how to maintain itself.
Hence not moving…
Movement is information. Our bodies evolved to expect it, and modern life keeps taking it away.
I wrote about what this study found, what it doesn't prove, and what I think it means for how we train as we age:

@JensenHuang what really matters in a world when intelligence as we think of it is solved. (i.e now)
Can you sense what’s next, around the corner?
The problem with making a great meat-sauce is that by the time you are done , after an extended simmer… you already finished your dinner while tasting it.

Yes, such a good metaphor for how our brain works, at least according to latest science. We are running a simulation of the world, our internal world model. This how we are able to dream, reason, plan without physically experiencing the world through our senses. Also why visualization actually work.
It explains how we so effortlessly can navigate terrain and at times drive for hours without “paying attention” when we are doing our daily commute. One could say some people even operate like this all day as they are stuck inside their own simulation barely paying attention to what is actually going on….
In my personal experience this is why the breath is such a powerful tool to assess what is going on physically. It operates on what ever prediction algo your internal model state is. Hence if your model is operating under constant anxiety for the future, well your breath will compensate and keep you ready to jump.
A great example of how this internal state effect’s physiology is when during a training run you start to visualize the next race you might be training for. Almost always you’ll start to run faster and breath harder.
As a tool the breath also works the other way around, by slowing your breathing, or even holding your breath, you will effect this model state. If you do this as a practice it will update your internal model.
What is so cool is how this model is completely malleable. Just provide the right inputs and it will update. Hence you see people make complete 360 in their life when they change what/who they expose themself too and when they adopt new habits. The internal model is defraged, and re-built.
The book A Brief History of Intelligence is such a good read on this topic!
@muellerberndt Interesting. Intelligence as a persistent closed-loop process rather than inference through a static pretrained model is something I’m onboard with,
