Journal Sq to Liberty State Park
200 cars & 4 buses, stuck in traffic
200 drivers could fit on 4 buses
This is a failed transportation system. Bus and bike lanes have 5-10x more capacity & 5-10x less emissions, noise, pollution, violence, and cost

@eaconner@yousefjsaleh More trains/ferries is best, but a bike/ped connection should also exist, if our transpo sector wasn't a total disaster
Ppl regularly propose bridge, but tunnel is better. There's also ways to use existing tunnels for BRT/bike/ped, e.g. 1-lane bike "pulses" every 1-2hrs.
@eaconner@yousefjsaleh There should obviously be a bike/ped connection b/w Hudson County and NYC. As it currently stands no one is working on it, and we will still be at square 0 in 10 years. I don't accept that.
Ofc I agree with you re: the Councilman's failure to build any bike infra in the Heights.
@JonatPhil@yousefjsaleh Bayonne Bridge is 215', Goethals 140', Brooklyn 127', Manhattan 135', Wburg 145' (bike path).
228' is a huge schlep, there are successful bike/ped tunnels around the world of comparable size, 1000's of people per day would use a bike/ped tunnel between 2 of US' densest counties
@grischard@GridlockSam @BarmanNYC Holland tunnel is 93โ deep. Bridge would need to clear a 2000โ navigable channel with a height of 228โ. Also you have to worry about suicide barriers and people potentially jumping off. Attached is an image from a NJIT arch studio with @PANYNJ I reviewed on this topic.
@HeinisHardNews@yousefjsaleh@JCHudsonMedia He could have moved forward with what was piloted, but is accommodating someone's objections, and refuses to say what they are
Big waste of time and energy, for the tiniest 1st step towards reasonable bike infra in the Heights.
@yousefjsaleh@josh_weissman @davidsankey @JerseyCity@SolomonforJC@bikejc@SafeStreetsJC@NJBikeWalk@HudCoStreets Coles St is great! But Heights is years overdue for a PBL network
You know it's good policy, there's already support (which will grow as it's built), and Manhattan/Franklin is already funded
Wasting all the money & effort, and pushing everything back years, would be a disaster
@yousefjsaleh@josh_weissman @davidsankey @JerseyCity@SolomonforJC@bikejc@SafeStreetsJC@NJBikeWalk@HudCoStreets You've been in office >4yrs, with over a year left in this term. 5 years and 0 safe routes anywhere in the Heights is unacceptable.
You're talking about "a" PBL, in year 6? All JC's PBLs were built in the last 6 years. Here is what the bike master plan has called for, since 2019
@AylaSchermer@GovMurphy Car crash deaths per capita decreasing in OECD countries, increasing in US, and especially @GovMurphy's NJ https://t.co/Ru7fHWR5KJ
He is spending $20BN widening highways, has built 0 transit in 7 years. Historic policy disaster, with 1000's of violent deaths to show for it
@presinzano4hob1 Hoboken spending $40MM to rehab a parking garage ($50k/space) https://t.co/tIzZlypaaE
Depressing watching a new Councilperson focus exclusively on performative nonsense. You could save the city millions of pencils (and your constituents $10k/year) by reducing car dependence.
