@crogers_htown I’m not from Japan, but it was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken. A day trip by train to Kawagoe, also known as Little Edo, strolling through its charming streets and enjoying the street food and local delicacies, remains one of the most memorable experiences for me.

If you buy a $10,000 Rolex, you know it’s real.
If you buy a $10,000 game-worn jersey, you hope it’s real.
That’s a problem.

SF is turning the corner, very exciting.

A LinkedIn post from a person named Sumeet has been sent to me multiple times. I have also been tagged on this post many times. I think it's important for me to share my concerns here as well, because it's the right thing to do and unfortunately I am the only person who has been very vocal about this and will probably be the only one still.
In the post, Sumeet tells the real life incident involving his father. An otherwise healthy man, he took a herbal dietary supplement at the advise of one Dr. Gupta who is probably a franchisee of the Sky Herbal Life Company.
He was given two products - Sky Herbal Life Fat Burner and Sky Herbal Life Keto - both marketed for weight loss.
Sumeet's father took these products as advised for just 4 days. From the 5th day onwards, he started to lose appetite and on the 10th day after start of symptoms, he was dead. Just gone. Imagine. A much loved healthy senior person will be missing from the life of everyone in that family. Imagine the void. In fact, it's terrifyingly unimaginable.
That said, I am sorry to say that this was not surprising. See the products Sumeet's father took. Read the ingredients. Two of them stand out. Both are WELL DOCUMENTED and both in fact have WARNINGS from the medical science community as well as health regulatory bodies from scientifically progressive societies, as severe liver toxic agents that can lead to the fatal condition the man suffered from - Acute Liver Failure.
Green tea extracts (not green tea) and Garcinia cambogia (malabar tamarind) are highly liver toxic compounds that can injure the liver so badly that they can kill. The person dies of multiple organ failure. This man was on two products that contained both. It's criminal. He was murdered by that "Dr. Gupta" who sold these products to him.
Studies have shown that epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in green tea extracts and hydroxycitric acid in Garcinia are toxic compounds in isolation, and worse when they are together - like seen in this product.
Please see here. This has been known since decades. Why are our people not aware of this? Why is the health regulatory body not telling the public this, or putting up warnings or banning these shitty products off the shelf?

These products do not help you lose weight. They are in fact common causes for severe liver injury and liver failure. And no doctor will tell you this because they fear the industry and are happy with a 9 to 5 clinical job. I have no fear. And I don't have anything to sell, other than these warnings. Please heed. Some doctors may even try to sell this death to you. Beware of such practitioners who prescribe/promote herbal supplements.
How many more avoidable deaths would you want to witness, to understand that herbal and dietary supplements industry is dangerous sham and it serves no real benefits for health or clinical well being.
Sky Herbal Life needs to be sued, taken taken court and made to pay. Dr. Gupta must be in jail...
...in a better world. Not current India.
Reject herbal supplements.
You'll be richer by it.
Money-wise and lives.

This has been a year full of engineering excellence that sometimes can go unnoticed. Besides all the visible changes you see on our app, here are some of the most important improvements we have made under the hood.
- Consolidated the tech stacks for For you, Following, Search, Profiles, Lists, Communities and Explore around a singular product framework.
- Completely rebuilt the For you serving and ranking systems from the ground up, resulting in a decrease 90% reduction in lines of code from 700K to 70K, a 50% decrease in our compute footprint, and an 80% increase in the throughput of posts scored per request.
- Unified the For you and video personalization and ranking models, which significantly improved video recommendation quality.
- Refactored the API middleware layer of our tech stack and in doing so simplified the architecture by removing more than 100K lines of code and thousands of unused internal endpoints and eliminating unadopted client services.
- Reduced post metadata sourcing latency by 50%, and global API timeout errors by 90%.
- Blocked bots and content scrapers at a rate +37% greater than 2022. On average, we prevent more than 1M bots signup attacks each day and we’ve reduced DM spam by 95%.
- Shutdown the Sacramento data center and re-provisioned the 5,200 racks and 148,000 servers, which generated more than $100M in annual savings. In total, we freed up 48 MW of capacity and tore down 60k lbs. of network ladder rack before re-provisioning it to other data centers.
- Optimized our usage of cloud service providers and began doing much more on-prem. This shift has reduced our monthly cloud costs by 60%. Among the changes we made was a shift of all media/blob artifacts out of the cloud, which reduced our overall cloud data storage size by 60%, and separately, we succeeded in reducing cloud data processing costs by 75%.
- Built on-prem GPU Supercompute clusters and designed, developed, and delivered 43.2Tbps of new network fabric architecture to support the clusters.
- Scaled network backbone capacity and redundancy, which resulted in $13.9M/year in savings.
- Started automated peak traffic failover tests to validate the scalability and availability of the entire platform continuously.
The first time I visited Mumbai was in 1996 and it was same way back then . It was just part of mumbaikars life and as I understand this was not their most important concern .
If you living such a life on a daily basis, your aim should be to quit this city somehow. This consists of removing all your obligations through a combination of hard work and luck.
There is nothing about this lifestyle that should make you love Mumbai.
In 2008 I showed up to Y Combinator Startup School to take photos of speakers and learn how to start a startup.
I was an engineer and designer and had never started a company before.
A few days ago, the Mayor of SF dropped this thread in which she tries to explain why the city has no money.
I thought we should provide a little translation for those of you who can’t follow California politician-speak…
