@mrtabrett@LondonMoneyFS Fixed rates are determined by the equivalent interest rate swap. Basically (a) borrower pays fixed rate, (b) lender owes variable rate -> this creates interest rate risk so (c) lender executes interest rate swap. Right now 2yr swap not far below 5yr swap hence rates approx same
@DiddlySquat51@Starcourse@EdConwaySky@nadhimzahawi That’s a terrible take. Forward expected path of inflation is much lower than it was when Truss admin was in (p.s. I thought the Truss budget was appalling but so is this one).
@LozzaFox Banks don’t randomly close accounts bc they don’t like people. That would be stupid for business. It’s usually based on a KYC or AML issue. For example, with Farage, Coutts has banked him for years. Are you honestly trying to say they only just realised his political views?
@cmackinlay@julianHjessop @TimPitt11 @DavidGauke@bankofengland It's amazing that MPs are so willing to tweet their own ignorance. LDI is a basic risk management technique which works well in low volatility gilts. No-one could've predicted a PM carrying through a budget without basic understanding of economics.
@_ceetop@paulwaugh It’s also incorrect English. BJ was a sitting PM who sent his kids to public school. If he had said ‘while sitting’ it might be more accurate.
@_ceetop@paulwaugh That seems like a really convoluted way of provoking envy politics if that’s what he was suggesting. Why should it matter. The person still sent their kids to public school. Which is obv fine.
@Dannythefink It's completely ridiculous. He is endorsing the same idea that leads to US primaries and polarising figures being put forward for President. We live in a parliamentary democracy. They are the ones with the mandate not 100,000 or so Johnson acolytes who are deeply unrepresentative
@KevinASchofield Why are these liars still being quoted by the media? BJ still needs 44 nominations to reach 100 from 144 MPs left to declare. They tried to pretend the whole of yesterday they had reached that threshold. Its clearly nonsense.
